Since 1863, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has worked to preserve human dignity and relieve suffering caused by war and armed violence.
In collaboration with our Red Cross and Red Crescent partners around the world, we do everything we can to deliver life-saving aid, reconnect families and locate missing people – helping those who need it most, regardless of who they are and what side of the front line they are on.
We engage with authorities and armed forces on all sides, often confidentially, pressing for access to detainees to improve their living conditions and urging compliance with international humanitarian law to protect non-combatants, including from digital threats.
In order to fulfill its humanitarian mandate, it is imperative for the ICRC to have effective security and crisis management that identifies and mitigates risks that threaten our global workforce, assets, and reputation, and provides the framework for a rapid and professional response when a serious security incident or a large-scale emergency occurs. The Security and Crisis Management Support (SCMS) Division bears chief responsibility for security policy and the provision of operational support through guidance, training, and field missions, as well as facilitating and initiating emergency procedures. The five main functions of the division are: 1) Research, Analysis and Development, 2) Security and Safety Risk Management 3) Crisis Management 4) Support to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent (RCRC) Movement, and 5) Capacity Building.
This position will focus primarily on the capacity-building function of the SCMS Division's work. The SCMS Division provides a series of courses on security and crisis management for ICRC staff in the field, oversees the content of personal security training for field personnel, contributes to the training provided by other divisions and units within the ICRC and provides tailored training modules and workshops.
