Mission and objectives

The United Nations Information Centre in Cairo (UNIC Cairo) is a field office of the United Nations Department for Global Communications that serves the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is part of the global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs). UNIC Cairo is the principal source of information about the United Nations system in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The Centre is responsible for promoting public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by communicating about its work and disseminating UN information materials to national and regional stakeholders and audiences, engaging local and regional partners and overall bringing the United Nations closer to the people it serves. In Egypt, UNIC Cairo has been integrated with the Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) since the operationalization of the United Nations development system reform on 1 January 2019. UNIC Cairo works closely with the UN Country Teams and UN Communication Groups in the countries it serves.

Context

The assignment will support UNIC in the planning and implementation of the UN Day campaign, contributing to outreach and public engagement activities. The volunteer will assist in developing communications materials and coordinating campaign initiatives to promote the values and impact of the United Nations.

Task Description

The assignment is intended to support United Nations Information Centre’s efforts on the UN Day campaign. The Online Volunteer will work under the overall guidance of UNIC National Information Officer and will perform the assigned duties mentioned below. - Develop and implement a social media content calendar in coordination with the UN Day Task Force - Work closely with the hired event management agency UN will contract. - Draft engaging social media copy for campaign milestones, competition announcements, reminders and event coverage. - Coordinate publication of campaign content across UN Egypt social media platforms. - Monitor campaign engagement and recommend opportunities to maximize reach and audience interaction. - Support live social media coverage during the UN Day Awards Ceremony. - Prepare a summary of social media performance and analytics upon completion of the campaign.
