Organizational context
The UNHCR Global Disposal Service (UNGDS) supports the responsible and transparent disposal of surplus assets across UNHCR operations worldwide. Through its online auction platform and outreach activities, UNGDS promotes sustainable asset management practices, maximizes value recovery, and contributes to organizational efficiency.
The internship offers an opportunity for a motivated student or recent graduate to gain practical experience in strategic communications, digital marketing, stakeholder engagement, and social media outreach within an international humanitarian organization.

Position overview
The intern will support the promotion and visibility of the UNGDS online auction platform and assist in reaching potential buyers through targeted communication initiatives. The role is designed primarily as a learning and educational opportunity, enabling the intern to develop professional skills in communications, marketing, content creation, and audience engagement while contributing to the objectives of the Global Disposal Service.
Benefits
During the internship, the incumbent will acquire the following:
• Practical experience in strategic communications, digital marketing, content creation, and social media engagement within an international humanitarian organization.
• Knowledge of stakeholder outreach and audience engagement strategies, including the development of promotional campaigns aimed at increasing the visibility of the UNGDS online auction platform.
• Analytical and professional skills through the monitoring of communication performance, campaign reporting, project coordination, teamwork, and cross-cultural collaboration.
Duties and responsibilities
Under the supervision of the UNGDS team, the intern will support the following activities:
• Assist in the design and production of promotional and advertising materials for UNGDS initiatives and online auctions.
• Support the development of communication content for digital channels, including social media posts, emails, visual materials, newsletters, and promotional campaigns.
• Conduct outreach activities to engage new and potential buyers through social media platforms and other communication channels.
• Support the promotion and visibility of the UNGDS online auction platform to relevant audiences.
• Assist in preparing communication plans, campaign materials, and stakeholder messaging.
• Monitor engagement metrics from communication and social media activities and contribute to basic reporting and analysis.
• Support other communications and outreach-related activities as required by the UNGDS team.
The areas of work may be adapted during the internship to better align with the intern’s interests and profile, as well as the Service’s needs.
Eligibility
• Be a recent graduate (having completed their studies within one year of applying) or a current student enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme at a university or higher education institution accredited by UNESCO; and
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant to the Organization's work.
• Please note that candidates with immediate relatives (father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister) working for UNHCR as staff members, including Temporary Appointment holders, or as members of the Affiliate Workforce are not eligible.
• Recruitment as a UNHCR staff member and engagement under a UNHCR affiliate scheme or as an intern is subject to proof of full vaccination, independently of contract type and duration, unless the candidate is based in a location with documented lack of access to COVID-19 vaccines.
Desirable qualifications and skills
We are looking for a driven, resourceful, and enthusiastic individual with an interest in marketing, communications or a related field. The ideal candidate should thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Education: Enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a university programme in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Business Administration, International Relations, or a related field.
• Language Skills: Excellent oral and written English skills are required. Working knowledge of a second UN official language is an asset.
• Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication tools. Basic graphic design and content creation skills are required.
