Job Description

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigerian nationals for the positions below at the Institute’s Headquarters in Ibadan.

Position:       Strategic Sourcing & Supply Contracts Officer

Contract:       3-years renewable contract                                           

Location: Ibadan

Closing Date: 3 September 2026

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Engagement

  • Assist in the strategic sourcing initiatives of the Institute.
  • Raise Requests for Expression of Interest (EOIs), Requests for Information (RFIs), and other relevant sourcing templates.
  • Identify potential and reliable suppliers capable of creating and delivering value to the Institute.
  • Issue, receive, and analyse responses to requests for proposals from potential suppliers.
  • Benchmark suppliers’ portfolios and review supplier performance.
  • Develop appropriate sourcing strategies, models, and initiatives to support the Institute’s procurement objectives.

Procurement Planning, Contracting and Supply Chain Coordination

  • Compile, analyse, and interpret suppliers’ performance reports using relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Participate in procurement planning activities.
  • Negotiate relevant contract terms and conditions with suppliers and service providers.
  • Assist in coordinating strategic sourcing initiatives for other stations.
  • Progress and monitor outstanding orders to ensure timely delivery of actual requirements.
  • Assist in the management of the supply chain website.
  • Maintain strategic partners’ files and other relevant documentation.

Strategic Partnerships and Procurement Planning

  • Draft Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for strategic partners.
  • Assist in editing the supply chain newsletter.
  • Review and assist in the development of specifications, terms, and conditions for procurement activities.
  • Support procurement planning with key stakeholders to ensure the timely availability of critical materials and strategic services.

Supplier Evaluation and Contract Management

  • Appraise and select new suppliers and update existing supplier records as required.
  • Benchmark suppliers’ portfolios using applicable models.
  • Conduct spend analysis to assess value, volume, and criticality for effective supplier relationship management.
  • Support the development and negotiation of contract terms and conditions relevant to specific contracts.

Compliance, Contract Monitoring and Reporting

  • Ensure that Institute service providers and suppliers comply with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Assist outstations in the management and monitoring of critical and high-value contracts.
  • Receive and interpret data relating to the operational components of the supply chain to prepare and report Supply Chain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Perform any other duties as directed by the Supervisor

Requirements

QUALIFICATION

The ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree (BSc) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Procurement and Supply Management or a related discipline. An MBA is desirable. Professional Certification such as CIPS, CIPSMN, or an equivalent certification in Procurement and Supply Chain Management is an added advantage. The candidate must also have a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant professional experience performing similar functions, preferably within a non-profit or donor-funded international organization.

COMPETENCIES

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Demonstrable working knowledge of commercial laws.
  • Sound understanding of international trade terms and practices.
  • Good knowledge of contract administration and management.
  • Experience in strategic sourcing, supplier management, procurement planning, contract negotiation, and supply chain operations.
  • A sound analytical mind with the ability to analyse, interpret, and utilise procurement and supply chain information effectively.
  • High integrity and a strong commitment to ethical procurement practices.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Good knowledge of contract agreements and contract administration.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with little or no supervision.
  • Strong supplier relationship management and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with internal stakeholders, strategic partners, suppliers, service providers, and contractors.
