ECHA/TRN/ 2027/004 – Project Team M0 – New Risk Management tasks

The project team for new risk management tasks is responsible to prepare for the implementation of tasks recently brought under ECHA’s mandate under the following pieces of EU legislation: the Batteries Regulation (BR); the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR); the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment directive (RoHS); the End of Life Vehicles regulation (ELV); the Toys Safety Regulation (TSR); and the Persistent Organic Pollutants regulation Annexes IV and V (POPs in waste). Our main tasks are to:

  • prepare scoping studies and investigation reports as mandated by the EU Commission.
  • set up the new processes and develop the necessary IT tools, formats and guidance.
  • support RAC and SEAC committees in the set -up of new opinion making processes.
  • map and engage with relevant new stakeholders, capturing their knowledge and input to be considered in the setup and subsequent implementation.
  • develop the necessary knowledge and experience with the regulatory frameworks and tasks, both internally and in the ECHA committees .

Assignment for the trainee Depending on their profile, the successful candidate would contribute to one/some of the above work areas with tasks to

  • Support implementation of new ECHA regulatory tasks under RoHS, ELV, Batteries, PPWR, Toys and POPs in Waste legislation.
  • Assist with stakeholder engagement activities, workshops and consultations.
  • Support project management and monitoring of outsourced studies.
  • Contribute to the development of guidance documents, procedures and training materials.
  • Support scientific committee activities and preparation of briefing materials.
  • Maintain project databases and stakeholder tracking tools.
  • Assist with process development and testing of IT solutions.
  • Prepare reports, meeting minutes and analytical summaries.
  • Support the wider work of the M0 team, contributing flexibly to team activities as needed and gaining insight into different legislations.

Learning opportunities Through this traineeship, you will acquire practical experience in the implementation of EU chemicals and product legislation, regulatory project management, stakeholder engagement, scientific committee procedures, contractor management, and digital proces s development. In addition, you will develop a sound understanding of ECHA's governance framework, regulatory processes and operational practices, while strengthening your skills in coordination, communication, analysis and administrative support within a European Union agency environment. Profile of the trainee

  • Completed or undergoing university studies in the following fields: environmental sciences, chemistry, economics, chemical engineering, toxicology or a related field.
  • Strong interest in EU regulatory activities and sustainability -related legislation.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to plan tasks, follow them through and deliver reliably.
  • Attention to detail and a structured, methodical approach, including an interest in maintaining and developing established processes and tools.
  • Confidence with IT tools, such as those in MS Office.
  • Very good command of English both written and spoken (working language of the Agency).
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks independently and with limited supervision. Good interpersonal skills with a service-oriented approach and team spirit.
  • Aptitude for collaborating with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to switch between tasks and topics, and to support different teams and activities as needed.
  • Good analytical and research skills (e.g. capacity to analyse, design and/or implement processes). Assets
  • Experience working in international or multicultural environments, for example through studies, exchanges or volunteering.
  • Experience gained through academic studies, research projects, internships, traineeships or other relevant activities related to one or more of the legislative areas within the unit's remit would be considered an asset.
