Field Operations Manager

The Field Operations Manager is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all field-based operational activities to ensure the effective delivery of project objectives. The position provides leadership in logistics, infrastructure development, asset management, procurement coordination, contractor supervision, health and safety compliance, and field team management. The role ensures that operational resources, personnel, and infrastructure are managed efficiently and in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and standards.

MAIN ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations Planning & Coordination

• Coordinate and oversee day-to-day field operations across project sites.
• Ensure operational activities are implemented efficiently and in line with approved work plans.
• Support the Project Manager in planning, prioritizing, and monitoring operational activities.
• Identify operational risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.

Infrastructure, Contractor & Asset Management

• Oversee the construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of project infrastructure and facilities.
• Supervise contractors, consultants, and service providers to ensure quality work and timely completion.
• Conduct routine inspections of facilities, equipment, and operational assets.
• Ensure proper maintenance and utilization of project assets.
• Coordinate logistics support for field operations, including transportation, equipment, and supplies.
• Support procurement planning, vendor selection, and contract management processes.
• Monitor the delivery and distribution of materials and equipment to project sites.
• Ensure compliance with procurement and asset management procedures.

Team Supervision, Health & Safety

• Supervise field operational staff and provide technical guidance and support.
• Monitor staff performance and ensure accountability for assigned responsibilities.
• Facilitate effective communication and coordination between field teams and management.
• Promote teamwork, professionalism, and adherence to organizational values.
• Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards across all operational activities.
• Promote safe working practices and conduct regular safety inspections.
• Report and follow up on incidents, accidents, and safety concerns.
• Support implementation of security protocols and risk management measures.

Reporting, Compliance & Stakeholder Engagement

• Prepare and submit operational reports, progress updates, and activity summaries.
• Maintain accurate records relating to infrastructure, logistics, procurement, and operational activities.
• Monitor operational budgets and resource utilization.
• Support audits, compliance reviews, and donor reporting requirements.
• Liaise with government authorities, contractors, suppliers, community leaders, and other stakeholders as required.
• Represent the organization during operational meetings and site visits when delegated.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Manager or Senior Management.

Education and EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in field operations, construction management, logistics, infrastructure development, or project implementation.
• Demonstrated experience supervising teams, contractors, and operational activities in remote field locations.

• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent planning, coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience in contractor and vendor management.
• Strong knowledge of procurement, logistics, and asset management procedures.
• Excellent report-writing and communication skills.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards.
