OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The WHO Country Office in Papua New Guinea works closely with the National Department of Health, other development partners and stakeholders to promote the global and regional health goals to achieve good health for Papua New Guinea citizens. The strategic priorities include: 1) achieving sustainable health outcomes; 2) strengthening health system; and 3) emergency preparedness, surveillance and health security.
 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The incumbent will perform all or part of the following, and other related responsibilities as required by the needs of the office.

Provide reliable and secure driving services by:

• Driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel, including for field visits, and the delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items.
• Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and facilitating immigration and customs formalities, as required.
• Checking for availability of all the required documents/supplies for the assigned vehicle, including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, first aid kit and necessary spare parts.
• Logging official trips, daily mileage, gas/electricity consumption.
• Undertake day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, oil changes, checking tires and brakes, car washing and making arrangements for major repairs.
• Be responsible for keeping his driving license valid and for conforming to the traffic code to meet all requirements of driving regulations and safety requirements.
• Take appropriate precautions for the security of the vehicle and its contents when left unattended.
• Ensure that the GPS and tracking devices are operational and checks those daily to ensure their functionality.
• Report any incidents/ accidents asper the steps outlined in the rules and regulations.
• Perform messenger duties such as handling deliveries, collecting and loading/unloading mail, documents and goods or supplies.
   

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: Secondary, technical, or commercial school and a valid driving license.
Desirable: Basic mechanics' certificate and first aid training.
 

Experience

Essential: Minimum one year of work experience as a driver with a safe driving record.
Desirable: Experience in driving within WHO or another United Nations agency would be an asset.
 

Skills

• Local traffic regulations and topography of the country
• Protocol and organizational security standards for drivers
• Basic mechanical knowledge and skills in operating and maintaining different types of vehicles

REMUNERATION

WHO offers staff in the General Services category an attractive remuneration package, which for the above position includes an annual net base salary starting at PGK 30,655 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
