Mission and objectives

UNDP is the knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development in the UN Development System and serves as the integrator for collective action to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP’s policy work carried out at HQ, Regional and Country Office levels, forms a contiguous spectrum of deep local knowledge to cutting-edge global perspectives and advocacy. The Governance, Rule of Law, and Peacebuilding Hub, a joint endeavor of the Crisis Bureau (CB) and the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS), integrates work across governance, rule of law and peacebuilding (GRP) to substantially improve UNDP positioning and resource mobilization, undertake global advocacy; advance principled and effective solutions that support accountable, inclusive and effective governance, prevent and respond to crisis, and enable peacebuilding and early recovery from crisis, whilst addressing underlying risks.

Context

Public procurement is one of governments' most powerful instruments for delivering public services, advancing sustainable development, and responding to crises. Representing approximately one-third of government expenditure globally—equivalent to 13–20 per cent of GDP in many countries—it plays a critical role in sectors such as health, education, water, and infrastructure, while shaping private sector development and economic competitiveness. Given its scale, ensuring integrity in public procurement is essential. Yet corruption remains a significant challenge: estimates suggest that bribes in public procurement can amount to 8–25 per cent of a contract's value, while corruption can increase project costs by as much as 50 per cent, undermining the efficient use of public resources, public trust, and development outcomes. To support evidence-based reforms, UNDP, with the support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and in partnership with the Government Transparency Institute (GTI), has drawn procurement data from 57 countries covering the period 2017–2024, and analyzed global trend on different risks of integrity in public procurement. At the same time, it has conducted two country case studies --one for Italy and the other for Saudi Arabia. The UNDP BPPS GRP Hub's anti-corruption team is looking for graphic desiger who can support the team to convert word-based reports into designed version using canva, and can support creating a good grahic design for weekly social media posts.
