Job Description

Mission and objectives

Since 3rd November, 2011, ASCOA has been dedicated to improving the awareness of the local community on HIV/AIDS and its related stigma, promoting peace building in the society, fostering environmental protection and the fight against climate change, supporting children, and empowering women and girls in order to improve their socio-economic participation and boost their wellbeing. We envision a world free of HIV/AIDS, where people are neither stigmatized nor discriminated upon due to their HIV status; a world where women are empowered and children are protected; a world where peace reigns and people live in an environment free of pollution and global warming.

Context

The Association for Community Awareness (ASCOA) is organizing the landmark Africa Marine Litter and Plastic Pollution Conference. Centered on the theme “Uniting Africa for Ocean Protection & Marine Litter Solutions,” this continental event brings together policymakers, scientists, private-sector leaders, civil society, and youth champions. To maximize regional and international visibility, drive multi-stakeholder engagement, and effectively broadcast live sessions, ASCOA seeks a dedicated cohort of 10 online UN Volunteers specializing in communication, digital outreach, and social media management.

Task Description

Selected volunteers will work closely with ASCOA’s Communications, Media, and Public Relations Committee to execute the conference’s outreach strategy. Key responsibilities include managing social media and campaigns, creating content and writing copy, engaging the community, monitoring digital channels, and managing the newsletter.
