Job Title: Coordinator, GSRH Programs and Membership Engagement

Reports To: Program Lead, Women in Leadership (0.5) & Director of COMS-A (0.5)

Location: COMS-A Secretariat, Kigali, Rwanda

COMS-A Overview

COMS-A is a pan-continental, African-led platform for medical education reform, uniting over 200 medical schools across the continent around common standards, shared research, and coordinated advocacy. Since its 2025 launch, COMS-A has placed gender, sexual and reproductive health and rights (GSRH) at the center of its mission, building a unified platform for training in gender-responsive health and educational services across Africa’s medical schools.

Purpose of the Job

The Coordinator is a new role that combines technical leadership on GSRH programming with ongoing member engagement for the Consortium. Working closely with the COMS-A Director and Program Lead - Women in Leadership, the Coordinator ensures that GSRH integration is substantive, evidence-based, and contextually appropriate across the Secretariat’s workstreams, including the Faculty Development Academy and the Higher Education Leadership Academy, among others, while also sustaining and growing COMS-A’s membership base across a rapidly expanding, linguistically and regionally diverse network of institutions.

Key Responsibilities

GSRH Program Leadership and Curriculum Integration

1. Coordinate the integration of GSRH content into curricula, training programs, and mentorship initiatives across COMS-A workstreams.

2. Co-design GSRH curriculum content and educational materials for key academies and training initiatives.

3. Provide programmatic leadership and operational support for leadership and allyship programs, including oversight of quality-improvement projects and tracking institutional commitments.

4. Support fellowship and specialized training programs through recruitment, cohort logistics, partner site coordination, and monitoring of institution-based projects.

5. Support GSRH-related monitoring and evaluation: track indicators, compile evidence, and contribute to quarterly and annual donor reporting.

6. Serve as a primary point of contact for member institutions on GSRH-related programming and technical assistance requests.

Membership Engagement

7. Lead recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing engagement of COMS-A member institutions across Africa.

8. Maintain and update the membership database and communications systems, ensuring accurate and current records as the network grows.

9. Develop and execute overall member engagement strategies, facilitate communities of practice across thematic areas, and maintain active oversight of member involvement and satisfaction.

10. Support planning and delivery of the annual MedEdAfrica conference and other convenings, including coordination of GSRH scientific programming.

Secretariat Support

11. Support the COMS-A Director on day-to-day Secretariat operations, reporting, and donor communications as needed.

12. Contribute to partnership development with continental and global bodies on related collaboration.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills

Organizational Profile

UGHE is a new kind of university focused on training the next generation of global leaders in health care delivery. The university launched in Rwanda in September 2015. Through an academic experience uniquely rooted in the values of equity, students are empowered to both ease suffering at the bedside and drive transformational, systemic changes to the health system.

UGHE is an initiative of Partners In Health (PIH), an internationally recognized non-profit organization whose mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. In over nearly three decades of operating alongside public sectors in countries around the world, PIH has developed a model to deliver high quality healthcare to some of the world’s most marginalized communities. Nowhere has this impact been more profound than in Rwanda, where Inshuti Mu Buzima—PIH’s sister organization—and our government partners have driven innovation for a decade.

Members of the UGHE community are tenacious and resolute in our drive to attain social justice, make common cause with those in need, listen to and learn from others, and operate with honesty and humility as we uphold academic integrity and intellectual curiosity. The University of Global Health Equity seeks individuals committed to these values to join the team.

Commitment to Safeguarding and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Sexual Harassment

At UGHE, we are committed to ensuring that those who benefit from our work—including community members—as well as our students, contractors, staff, and visitors to our campus are treated with dignity and respect and protected from sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment and any form of systemic abuse, whilst reducing risk and vulnerabilities. A range of pre-employment checks will be undertaken in conformity with UGHE’s policy.

UGHE will request information from applicants’ previous employers about any findings of fraud, harassment, sexual harassment and any form of systemic abuse or incidents under investigation when the applicant left employment. By applying, the job applicant confirms their understanding of these recruitment procedures.
