Engineer (Digital Infrastructure)

To meet growing operational demand, the Directorate of CIS Support Units (DCSU) is expanding its presence across a number of locations. DCSU manages, delivers and maintains communications and information systems products and services for NATO customers.

Through its CIS Support Units, DCSU provides the vital connection between customers and NCIA's wider service-delivery organisation.

This role will provide direct, on-site infrastructure and customer support to remote NATO offices in Kyiv. The assignment combines hands-on digital infrastructure engineering, information security, local IT support, logistics, cryptographic coordination and management of service-based contracts.

About the Role

As Digital Infrastructure Engineer, you will design, implement, operate and improve the server, storage, data-centre and cloud-related infrastructure supporting remote NATO offices in Kyiv. You will provide on-site IT support, troubleshoot infrastructure issues, maintain system software and storage services, and help ensure that local digital services remain secure, resilient and reliable. Working with users, CSU Brussels, specialist support teams, suppliers and other technical organisations, you will coordinate integrations, security controls, network support and service-based contracts. The role is expected to spend approximately 75% of its time in Kyiv, operating on a recurring pattern of six weeks in Kyiv followed by two weeks in Brussels. The post does not directly supervise staff but does require oversight of external contractors.

What You Will Do

•        Design, install, configure and maintain server, storage, system-software and related infrastructure services.
•        Develop system designs, integration plans, test environments and detailed technical specifications in line with agreed architectures and standards.
•        Monitor infrastructure load, performance, availability and security events, and take corrective or proactive action where required.
•        Carry out system-software maintenance, backup and restore activity, storage management and routine administration using approved tools and scripts.
•        Provide on-site IT support, network-equipment support, IT logistics and incident escalation for remote NATO offices.
•        Apply information-security controls, perform risk and business-impact analysis, and support investigation of suspected attacks or security incidents.
•        Support and coordinate cryptographic activities in accordance with NATO requirements.
•        Manage service-based contracts associated with the remote site, monitor supplier performance and support contract renewal activity.

You will work across organisational and geographic boundaries, connecting local users with CSU Brussels, support teams, suppliers and technical specialists.

You will also be expected to act with sound judgement, initiative and appropriate pace in a demanding operating environment, while complying with applicable NATO security measures and procedures.

Essential Education and Experience

•        A bachelor's degree in a related discipline with 2 years of post-related experience, or at least 6 years of extensive and progressive post-related experience where the degree requirement is exceptionally compensated.
•        At least 2 years of practical experience designing, implementing and managing technology, software and hardware supporting servers, storage systems, data centres or cloud services.
•        Practical experience troubleshooting infrastructure-related issues and performing regular maintenance.
•        Good communication and interpersonal skills.
•        Good analytical skills and a solution-oriented approach.
•        A thorough knowledge of one NATO language, both written and spoken; some knowledge of the other is desirable.

Desirable Education and Experience

•        At least 1 year of experience providing IT support in conflict zones.
•        A current certificate of attendance for hostile-environment awareness training.
•        At least 1 year of experience communicating with users at all levels, including senior or VIP users.
•        NATO cryptographic certifications.
•        Knowledge of Ukrainian and/or Russian.

Important Information Before Applying

•        The primary duty location is Kyiv, Ukraine. Brussels, Belgium is identified as the other location for the post.
•        Kyiv as an extreme-risk location rated by the NATO Office of Security. Special security measures will apply to personnel assigned to or travelling to the location.
•        Family members will not be relocated with the successful candidate.
•        The assignment is expected to spend approximately 75% of overall time in Kyiv, using a recurring pattern of six weeks in Kyiv followed by two weeks in Brussels.
•        The role may require on-demand support outside normal business hours and work on site.
