About IDB

We work to improve lives in Latin America and the Caribbean. Through financial and technical support for countries working to reduce poverty and inequality, we help improve health and education, and advance infrastructure. Our aim is to achieve development in a sustainable, climate-friendly way. With a history dating back to 1959, today we are the leading source of development financing for Latin America and the Caribbean. We provide loans, grants, and technical assistance; and we conduct extensive research. We maintain a strong commitment to achieving measurable results and the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability.

The Bank’s current focus areas include three development challenges – social inclusion and equality, productivity and innovation, and economic integration – and three cross-cutting issues – gender equality and diversity, climate change and environmental sustainability; and institutional capacity and the rule of law. Working at IDB

In 2017 we were awarded the first level of EDGE Certification, which recognizes our solid commitment to gender equality, diversity and inclusion, across our operations and our talent management practices. EDGE evaluated our organization on: equal pay for equivalent work; recruitment and promotion; leadership development, training, and mentoring; flexible working arrangements; and company culture. The IDB is the first Latin American and Caribbean development institution to earn this certification.

We promote a culture that is:

  • Collaborative.
  • Analytical.
  • Solutions-minded.
  • Results-oriented.
  • Innovative.
  • Diverse.

Current and future leaders at the IDB are offered mentorship and development opportunities to help accomplish their own professional goals – and to help us all work together more effectively toward improving lives.

We don’t just talk about a work/life balance. We offer ways toward achieving it through flexible work schedules, parental leave, and other benefits that help shape a reasonable fit between life at home and at work.
