Job Description

The European Investment Fund (EIF) is seeking to recruit for its Risk Office Department (RO) – Portfolio Risk Management & Surveillance Division at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a Senior Risk Technology & Automation Specialist*. This is a full-time temporary position at grade 5.

Temporary contract:

The EIF offers a CDD contract until the 31 December 2029. As this is a temporary position, no extension or conversion of the contract is foreseen.

Purpose

Part of the EIB Group, the mission of the European Investment Fund (EIF) is to improve access to finance for SMEs and small mid-caps in Europe. We do this by supporting emerging and established fund managers with equity investments and by designing debt financing instruments that share the risk taken by financial institutions when they lend to or invest in small businesses. We bring this support closer to entrepreneurs through our extensive network of partners and financial intermediaries in all EU Member States and associated countries.

The selected candidate will report to the Head of Portfolio Credit Risk Management Unit, who reports to the Head of Portfolio Risk Management and Surveillance Division collaborating closely with colleagues in Risk Office, other EIF services and any relevant services at the EIB.

The Risk Technology & Automation Officer is based in specialized Risk teams and drives efficiency, digitalisation, and innovation within the EIF Risk Office, for Portfolio Credit Risk Management. The role focuses on automating manual processes, integrating various data sources, exploring advanced technologies and leveraging AI to strengthen data governance, improve efficiency, reduce operational risk, and support complex contractual as well as non-contractual reporting and monitoring activities.

The ideal candidate bridges Risk expertise with technology fluency, developing new solutions that are secure, effective and efficient, as well as aligned with internal guidelines, procedures, processes, and standards.

Responsibilities

In your role, you will work on:

  • Process Automation & Digitalisation
    • Analyse Compliance & Risk workflows and identify automation opportunities (e.g., RPA, Power Automate, workflow engines).

    • Design, implement, and maintain automated solutions that reduce manual workload and enhance consistency.

    • Drive digitalisation initiatives, including data optimization, automation of portfolio credit risk calculations, dashboard and report creation, and process redesign.

  • AIDriven Enhancements
    • Develop and deploy AIpowered tools for surveillance, monitoring, reporting, data screening, quality control checking, and performance evaluation.

    • Collaborate with Compliance & Risk subjectmatter experts to ensure AI outputs meet contractual obligations, procedural guidelines and regulatory requirements.

    • Set up humanintheloop validation processes for GenAI use cases.

  • Data, Systems & Integration
    • Build and maintain data pipelines, reports, dashboards, and structured/unstructured data flows.

    • Ensure seamless system integration (e.g., SharePoint, Copilot, Power Platform, databases, external rating agencies and Bloomberg inputs, Power BI).

    • Support the enhancement of monitoring systems, data quality control tools, and riskparameter calculation engines.

  • Governance, Controls & Documentation
    • Provide clear technical documentation: architectures, workflows, test logs, validation procedures.

    • Ensure adherence to dataquality principles, informationsecurity policies, and AI governance requirements.

    • Monitor technological developments to keep solutions aligned with EU and industry regulatory frameworks.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Change Enablement
    • Work closely with Risk teams to translate needs into scalable technological solutions.

    • Foster adoption through training, communication, and user support.

    • Act as a bridge between Investment Office, IT, Risk Management, Legal, and Data/AI units.

Qualifications

  • At least five (5) years and no more than ten (10) years of post-graduation (after having obtained your initial university diploma) relevant professional experience at the same level of responsibility.

  • University degree, preferably at postgraduate level, preferably in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Business Intelligence, Finance, Economics or Mathematics.

  • An understanding of Risk Management, more particularly securitisation transactions, credit risk analysis of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), Consumer and RMBS portfolios and their internal controls.
  • Experience integrating technology into Risk processes (monitoring and surveillance, reporting, risk analytics).

    • Strong capabilities in Reporting Skills and Data Visualization for portfolio monitoring, dashboards, and risk reporting
  • Artificial Intelligence & Advanced Analytics

    Practical experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning applied to credit risk analytics and portfolio surveillance Ability to deploy AI-driven tools for performance monitoring, anomaly detection, and risk assessment Familiarity with advanced analytics techniques (e.g. NLP, predictive modelling) in financial contexts
