Safety Assistant

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocateand promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 600 staff in Ukraine andwill continue scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods,
Tip a friend Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action)sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and
partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolvingcontext.

DRC is currently looking for a Safety Assistant in Barvinkove.

About the job:

Safety Assistant position will be based in Barvinkove. Safety Assistant will provide technical support to the safety team, field office and program teams on all DRC safety policies, procedure and planning standards. Safety Assistant will report directly to Base Manager. Safety Assistant will maintain relevant safety documentation, data, and records (staff presence lists, training register, incident tracking, maps, etc.).

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

• Deliver briefings and context updates to the Safety Team.
• Assess potential impacts of the evolving context on DRCs programmatic activities.
• Deliver Pre/Post Arrival Briefs to incoming staff (national and international).
• Support in the management of the DRC safety information portal (SharePoint) ensuring that it is up to date, relevant and accessible to a range of users.

Also Safety Assistant will be responsible for:

• Provide technical support to the safety team, ability to maintain and support all normal working process for DRC Barvinkove Office.
• Make purchases related to the security department for the office premises, guest houses, safety needs of field teams and the vehicle fleet of the entire of the office.
• Provide timely inspection, proper preservation and storage.
• Act as the focal point for the procurement of all necessary safety-related equipment, facilities and other resources.
• Will provide technical support of all DRC safety equipment/communication equipment/safety documentation, review and update all safety documentation, database, trackers, lists related to safety department in DRC Barvinkove Office.

About you

To be successful in the role of Safety Assistant, we expect a minimum of 6 months of experience in any related field, preferably with experience in INGO.

We also expect the following:

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety or any other related field.
• Experience in safety/security staff for NGO is an advantage but not necessary.
• Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines under pressure.
• Proficiency with Digital literacy: MS Office applications, including high priority to Excel, Power Point required. Proficiency in use of graphic/arts/design, data visualization.
• Proven ability to work effectively with supervision, meet deadlines, ability to learn and report.
• Excellent relationship-building, interpersonal skills and ability to represent DRC.
• Level of English starting from B1 is an advantage but not necessary

We offer:

• Contract length: 3 month probation period contract, then depend on fundings.
• Level: I – Non-Management
• Designation of Duty Station: Barvinkove
• Start date: As soon as possible.

Salary and conditions of employment are determined in accordance with the Terms of Employment forNational Staff of the Danish Refugee Council and start from EUR 1,465 gross per month (depending on
experience and qualifications).
