IFC is seeking a Regional Industry Manager for the Agribusiness and Services sectors in East Asia and Pacific based in either Jakarta or Hong Kong SAR. The position is part of the Manufacturing‚ Agribusiness, and Services (MAS) department in the Asia & Pacific region.
The Regional Industry Manager will be responsible for leading a team based across the East Asia & Pacific sub-region in business development, structuring investments, and portfolio management. She/he will be part of the MAS Agribusiness and Forestry leadership team and coordinate on a continuous basis with the broader World Bank Group, and within IFC, the MAS Asia project development (Upstream) and Advisory team, Country Managers, as well as other relevant Departments/Divisions within IFC, such as Risk, Environmental & Social, Global Equity, Legal, Syndications, Special Operations (CSO), and Treasury. She/he will have direct supervisory responsibility over the investment staff and other staff as determined. The position will report to the Regional Industry Director, Agribusiness and Forestry, MAS, Asia & Pacific.
Duties and Accountabilities
- Develop and implement the strategy for IFC’s Agribusiness and Forestry sectors in the East Asia & Pacific region including food security, in partnership with the regional and industry management and relevant World Bank Group (WBG) colleagues, including key goals for AgriConnect and regional investment programs in line with country strategies. Drive the AgriConnect agenda to create more and better jobs in the agribusiness/agriculture space and linking farmers to the market. This also includes coordinating and tracking of IFC’s broader activities in the Agribusiness and forestry sectors;
- Execute and manage a pipeline of investments in the Agribusiness and Forestry sector across the region to meet IFC’s impact and profitability targets and origination of a broad pipeline with emphasis on Private Capital Mobilization (PCM) and IDA/FCS countries;
- Assume transaction manager role and provide credit and investment guidance to teams as well as quality control on teams’ activities;
- Manage portfolio of Agribusiness and Forestry in the region. Ensure a sound portfolio including generation of repeat business;
- Lead IFC business development efforts, collaborating with the regional/country teams and global teams;
- Manage selected MAS client relationships and ensure high levels of client satisfaction;
- Work closely to coordinate, leverage and support the Upstream and Advisory services in implementation of strategy for MAS;
- Work with Managers in the Financial Institution Group, Infrastructure and Funds Departments to explore areas of joint ventures to expand IFC’s business;
- Mentor and develop MAS Agribusiness staff in the region;
- Be part of, and actively contribute to, the regional leadership team and the global sector teams.
- Develop IFC’s brand in the region, building on IFC’s global brand and the overall communications strategy; and
- Be part of and actively contribute to the MAS Agribusiness and Forestry Leadership Team.
Selection Criteria
- Master's degree in business, finance or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in financing/investing in the real sector (MAS and/or INR) and familiarity with several sectors related agribusiness and forestry, chemicals &fertilizers, construction materials, health & education, machinery, manufacturing, tourism, retail and property.
- Proven experience in managing and developing teams.
- Proven experience sourcing and structuring complex investment transactions with strong track record in developing client relationships and processing quality investments.
- Strong sense of service to clients and demonstrated business development aptitude. Proven success in developing client relationships and executing quality investments.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, develop innovative solutions, challenge the status quo, and make sound decisions to build IFC business and contribute to AgriConnect.
- Sound knowledge of portfolio/asset management and experience in portfolio supervision of loans, equities and guarantees, and restructurings and recovery of impaired assets.
- Ability to work in a matrix organization as an integral part of the regional and industry departments as well as broader World Bank Group, delivering high-quality work within tight deadlines and meeting team objectives.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
