Job Description

IFC's Manufacturing and Services (M S) teams for Eastern and Southern Africa originate, structure and supervise private-sector investments across a diverse group of markets and sectors, including manufacturing and related value chains, tourism, retail, property, health and education. The teams work with existing and prospective clients, investors, financial institutions, governments and other World Bank Group colleagues to develop commercially sound projects with strong development impact. The M S teams are seeking two MNA Fellows to be located in two of our main subregional hubs (Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Johannesburg). The roles will provide hands-on exposure to the full investment cycle: market and sector analysis, business development, project appraisal and due diligence, financial structuring, negotiation and documentation, investment committee processes, commitment and disbursement, and portfolio supervision. The MNA Fellows will work as members of multidisciplinary teams and may support transactions across countries and subsectors within the regional mandate. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support business development and the origination of a strong pipeline by conducting market, sector and company research; identifying prospective clients and investment opportunities; and contributing to client engagement strategies.
  • Evaluate potential investments by analyzing business models, markets, competitive positioning, financial performance, credit quality, risks, IFC additionality and expected development impact.
  • Build, review and quality-check financial models, including historical analysis, projections, valuation, debt capacity and sensitivity or scenario analysis.
  • Participate in project appraisal and due diligence, help coordinate inputs from environmental and social, legal, technical, integrity, insurance, corporate governance and other specialists, and help identify appropriate risk mitigants.
  • Support the structuring, negotiation and execution of debt, equity, mezzanine and mobilization solutions; contribute to term sheets, internal approval documents, legal documentation and conditions for commitment or disbursement.
  • Contribute to portfolio supervision through financial and operational monitoring, covenant and compliance review, development-impact tracking, client follow-up and early identification of emerging risks or restructuring needs.
  • Take ownership of assigned workstreams, manage competing priorities and deadlines, and participate in missions and client meetings as required.
