The LCC2C Country Management Unit—hereinafter referred to as the LC2 CMU—is responsible for overseeing the World Bank’s program in Mexico, Central America and the Dominican Republic. Its responsibilities include country strategy formulation and implementation, policy dialogue, portfolio management, operational coordination, and country relations.
The CMU works with a diverse group of client countries with different income levels, institutional contexts, development challenges, and economic structures. The LC2 CMU covers Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Panama.
The subregion includes countries that have experienced some of the fastest economic growth rates in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as countries facing persistent challenges related to poverty, inequality, limited fiscal space, institutional capacity, vulnerability to climate-related and natural disasters, and insufficient economic transformation.
The economic and social effects of the COVID-19 pandemic compounded pre-existing macroeconomic, social, institutional, and governance challenges across the subregion. The countries covered by the CMU also face emerging challenges and opportunities related to climate change, migration, human capital development, infrastructure, job creation, digital transformation, private sector development, and the mobilization of private capital.
In Guatemala, the World Bank Group supports the country through a combination of loans, grants, analytical and advisory services, technical assistance, policy dialogue, and private sector investments and advisory engagements. Effective implementation of this program requires close coordination among the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Finance Corporation, the Government of Guatemala, development partners, private sector stakeholders, and other relevant actors.
