Unit Context: The World Bank Group (WBG)’s Global Department for Water works closely with its partners and client countries to achieve a water secure world for all by sustaining water resources, delivering services, and building resilience. Water security is central to development, underpinning public health, food systems, energy, climate resilience, and economic growth. Yet countries and utilities continue to face growing pressures from climate change, rapid urbanization, aging infrastructure, increasing water demand, service delivery gaps, and financing constraints. Many utilities face challenges related to governance, institutional capacity, non-revenue water, financial sustainability, and limited access to investment, constraining their ability to provide reliable and resilient water and sanitation services. Recognizing these challenges, the WBG launched Water Forward in 2026, an initiative aimed at improving water security for one billion people by 2030 through strengthened policies, institutions, financing, partnerships, knowledge exchange, and implementation support. Additional information on the WBG’s Global Department for Water and Water Forward can be obtained from this link: https://www.worldbank.org/water. Singapore Water Center (SWC) Established through a partnership between the Government of Singapore and the WBG, the Singapore Water Center (SWC) serves as a Water Forward enabler and a platform to translate global water ambitions into practical, country-level solutions. SWC combines Singapore's experience in integrated water management, utility transformation, innovation, technology adoption, and long-term planning with the WBG's global knowledge, financing expertise, and operational reach. Through training, technical assistance, utility partnerships, innovation pilots, knowledge products, and strategic convening, SWC helps countries translate knowledge into action and accelerate progress toward water security and climate resilience.
