Job Description

At the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group (WBG), you’ll join a diverse, global community working across cultures, disciplines, and borders to address the world’s most pressing development challenges. With 1.2 billion young people reaching working age in the decade ahead, the challenge of job creation has never been greater. Through partnerships across 145 countries and more than 182 offices worldwide, we work with governments, private sector, development partners and other stakeholders to invest in people, strengthen markets, and deliver scalable, data-driven solutions that generate more and better jobs and improve lives. In fiscal year 2026, IFC committed a record $105.6 billion to private companies and financial institutions in developing countries. For more information, visit www.ifc.org. IFC's Infrastructure Department for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) is recruiting an Associate Investment Officer (AIO) to be based in Panama City, Panama. The AIO will help identify business opportunities; support the structuring and execution of infrastructure investment transactions (project finance, corporate finance, equity, and hybrid instruments); and actively manage portfolio investments in core infrastructure sectors, including water, energy, transport, waste, municipal infrastructure, and telecommunications. While the role engages across LAC, the primary geographic focus will be Central America and the Caribbean. The overall goal of the position is to perform the regular activities of an Associate within a project finance and infrastructure investment department. The candidate must demonstrate strong financial modeling skills, with proficiency in Excel as a strict requirement, and must be able to conduct business fluently in both English and Spanish.

Duties and Accountabilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Map and screen business opportunities in infrastructure sectors across Central America and the Caribbean; undertake market research and perform corresponding integrity checks.
  • Support transaction teams during investment due diligence and execution. Prepare term sheets and investment committee materials; evaluate, structure, negotiate, and close new transactions.
  • Draft and present memos on relevant early-stage investment opportunities for discussion with management, incorporating local market context and regional sector dynamics.
  • Actively manage and supervise portfolio investments, including credit risk assessment, financial analysis, processing of waivers, disbursements, and covenant monitoring.
  • Build complex financial models from scratch, perform financial analysis, and provide quality control over financial analysis and projections developed by analysts to evaluate the benefits and risks of investments.
  • Produce country and sector analysis, marketing materials, and pitch books.
  • Support the development of a strong pipeline of investment opportunities by anticipating local and regional market trends.
  • Coordinate closely with social, environmental, legal, and technical specialists to add value to clients' businesses, find pragmatic solutions to sector challenges, and achieve sustainable development impact and private capital mobilization.
  • Manage and support relationships with clients, regional private businesses, banking and multilateral partners, and government officials to develop the sector and advance specific investment opportunities.
