Mission and objectives

The UN SDG Action Campaign is a special initiative of the UN Secretary-General, hosted by UNDP and based in Bonn. To bring us closer to a just, equitable, and sustainable world, the Campaign amplifies underrepresented voices, nurtures changemakers, and leverages creativity to inspire hope and bold action. The Heroes of Tomorrow: UN SDG Action Awards recognizes groundbreaking individuals and initiatives driving creative, transformative action for the Sustainable Development Goals globally. To amplify the stories of the 9 finalists and 1 honourable mention, this assignment aims to produce dynamic, highly engaging, mobile-first social media videos that build anticipation, foster global engagement, and inspire action across social platforms.

Task Description

Overview & Assignment Context The UN SDG Action Campaign is engaging a team of Online Volunteers to support the creation of short-form video content highlighting the storytellers, innovators, and changemakers featured in the Heroes of Tomorrow: UN SDG Action Awards. To maximize creative diversity, cover multiple regional languages/perspectives, and ensure robust production support, each Online Volunteer will focus on producing content for one designated story/finalist (or assist with specific localized/platform variations). The core video deliverables outlined below reflect the total collective output produced by the volunteer team. All raw footage, official branding guidelines, logos, graphic templates, lower thirds, and background audio/visual assets will be fully provided by the UN SDG Action Campaign team. Key Deliverables & Allocation Each Online Volunteer will be responsible for producing Deliverable 2 for their specifically assigned finalist, as well as contributing footage clips/edits toward the overall Deliverable 1 compilation. Deliverable 1: Compilation Video (9 Finalists + 1 Honourable Mention) Co-created/assembled across the volunteer team with host entity oversight. * Format & Length: Fast-paced, high-energy compilation / teaser video (60–90 seconds). * Objective: Introduce all 10 featured stories, create momentum, and generate broad awareness and anticipation ahead of and during the Heroes of Tomorrow: UN SDG Action Awards. * Core Elements: Hook-driven intro, rapid dynamic transitions across all 10 profiles, interactive engagement prompts (e.g., register to watch the Ceremony live), energetic soundtrack, branded motion graphics, and full subtitles. Deliverable 2: Spotlight Video (1 Chosen Finalist per Volunteer) Individual deliverable assigned to each Online Volunteer. * Format & Length: Deep-dive, narrative-driven short feature story (45–60 seconds) focusing on the volunteer's assigned finalist. * Objective: Create an emotional, inspiring, human-centered story that showcases the finalist’s journey, grassroots impact, and vision for the future. * Core Elements: Powerful opening hook, clear narrative arc, high-impact visuals/b-roll, interactive call-to-action, and brand-aligned lower thirds. Expected Volunteer Responsibilities * Concept & Storyboarding: Develop social-first storyboards and creative concepts tailored to short-form video trends (e.g., Facebook and Instagram Reels). * Video Assembly & Post-Production: Edit provided raw footage, b-roll, visual assets, and audio into polished digital stories. * Interactive & Social Optimization: Design content to invite audience interaction (e.g., question overlays, comment prompts, shareable quotes, dynamic visual hooks). * Branding & Graphic Integration: Apply provided official Heroes of Tomorrow: UN SDG Action Awards branding assets, lower thirds, overlays, typography, and logos in alignment with provided guidelines. * Localization & Accessibility: Add accurate burnt-in subtitles/captions to ensure full accessibility and higher view-through rates on silent feeds. * Audio & Visual Polishing: Conduct basic color balance, audio leveling, sound design, and pairing with provided royalty-free music to maintain cohesive pacing. * Platform Delivery: Export assets in optimized multi-format aspect ratios (primarily 9:16 vertical, with optional 4:5 variant). Support Provided by Host Entity To ensure a smooth workflow and support volunteers of varying backgrounds, the UN SDG Action Campaign will provide: * Full access to raw interview footage, b-roll libraries, high-resolution imagery, and background stories for all 10 finalists. * Official Heroes of Tomorrow: UN SDG Action Awards brand guidelines, logo packages, graphic overlays, lower thirds, and music/audio libraries. * Ongoing coordination, editorial feedback, and production guidance. Technical & Software Requirements We welcome applicants with experience in user-friendly, accessible, or professional digital storytelling and video editing tools (e.g., Canva, CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or similar platforms). Access to high-end professional software is not strictly required.
