Strong communication and collaboration skills are important, as the role involves working closely with scientists, software developers, and data specialists with a range of skills and scripting experience, from across the ICES community and Secretariat.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the development, operation, and adoption of the ICES Transparent Assessment Framework (TAF).
  • Provide technical support and guidance to expert groups implementing reproducible workflows, including the use of TAF, GitHub, and related tools.
  • Develop and maintain tools for use by the community, such as R packages, and online documentation.
  • Support ICES advice processes related to estimation of reference points and management strategy evaluation.
  • Contribute technical expertise to project teams as required.

Required competences and experience:

  • University degree in a science, computer science or statistics related subject, or equivalent experience.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Excellent knowledge of R, capacity to create, run and debug scripts and packages. Additional programming/scripting skills/languages are highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of stock assessment methods, outputs, and methods of how to calculate reference points.
  • Experience in running simulations of exploited fish populations and knowledge of management strategy evaluations (MSE).
  • Good knowledge of collaborative working tools, SharePoint, Github or similar.
  • A team player, but capable of working independently with little supervision.
  • Proactive problem solving and communication.
  • Methodical approach, i.e. managing tasks, priorities and responsibilities.
