The Organizational Setting
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that supports cooperation among its Member States in international civil aviation.
The Capacity Development and Implementation Bureau (CDI) supports Member States and the global aviation community through a diverse portfolio of products, services and initiatives, including implementation support, training, events, publications, data services and digital platforms.
The Marketing Team supports this portfolio through integrated marketing campaigns, email and social media, audience engagement, events, customer relationship management (CRM), marketing technology, analytics and digital content platforms.
Under the supervision of the Marketing Manager and with guidance from members of the Marketing Team, the intern will contribute to these activities while gaining practical experience in digital marketing and communications in an international United Nations environment.
Learning and Development Opportunities
The internship provides hands-on exposure to campaign development, content marketing, CRM and audience segmentation, marketing analytics, event promotion, digital platforms and the responsible use of AI-enabled tools. The intern will work with an international team, gain exposure to ICAO programmes and stakeholders across the global aviation community, and have opportunities for professional development, networking and participation in relevant ICAO learning activities. The primary focus of the internship will be the development and adaptation of digital marketing content across email, social media and other digital channels, with additional exposure to events, CRM, audience data and marketing analytics.

Under the supervision of the Marketing Manager, the intern will:

Expected result: Accurate and audience-appropriate campaign materials are prepared on schedule, and relevant campaign results are documented for future planning.
Expected result: Event marketing activities are supported by accurate research, organized information and timely digital and onsite assistance.
Expected result: Audience and campaign data are organized accurately and translated into useful information for marketing planning and review.
Expected result: Digital platform marketing is supported through timely promotion, accurate audience information and organized reporting.
Expected result: The intern progressively develops practical digital marketing skills while contributing effectively to the work of the Marketing Team.

Educational background

Essential requirements: Fluent reading, writing and speaking abilities in English.
Desirable requirements: A working knowledge of a second language of the Organization (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).
Conditions of Internship
This is a paid internship. Interns will receive a monthly stipend in accordance with the ICAO Internship Programme. All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by the intern.
In addition to the monthly stipend, interns accrue one and a half days of leave per month during the internship and may participate in relevant ICAO training and learning activities, subject to applicable approvals and availability.
Upon successful completion of the internship and separation procedures, ICAO will issue a certificate describing the duration, assignment and Terms of Reference of the internship, together with a brief objective assessment of performance. Supervisors may also consider providing a reference or recommendation upon request.
The initial duration of the internship will be six months, with the possibility of extension, by agreement between the supervisor and the intern and subject to organizational requirements, for a total internship period not exceeding twelve months.
The internship is an in-person assignment at ICAO Headquarters in Montréal, and the intern is expected to work five days per week on a full-time basis.
Interns shall not be eligible to be engaged in any other form of employment within ICAO during the period of internship. While interns may apply for ICAO vacancies as external candidates, a cooling-off period of six months between the end of the internship and the commencement of any other contractual relationship with ICAO shall apply.
Interns have the obligation to carry out duties assigned to them with loyalty, discretion and conscience and will act in accordance with the relevant official instructions issued by the Organization.
ICAO may terminate the internship before its expiry date by providing at least two weeks’ written notice, unless special circumstances apply. An intern may terminate the internship by providing at least one week’s written notice, unless special circumstances apply.
