About Global Commission on Drug Policy

The Global Commission on Drug Policy  is an independent body comprising 26 members, including political leaders, cultural figures, and globally influential personalities. Its purpose is to bring to the international level an informed, evidence based discussion about humane and effective ways to reduce the harms caused by drugs and drug control policies to people and societies.

In 2014, the Global Commission developed five pathways that provide a roadmap for an essential pragmatic policy change:

        1. Put people's health and security first;

        2. Ensure access to controlled medicines;

        3. Decriminalize use and possession for personal use;

        4. Focus enforcement responses to drug trafficking and organized crime, and adopt alternatives to incarceration for non-violent, low-level actors in the drugs market;

        5. Regulate drugs and put governments in control.
