Caritas Internationalis (Caritas)

Caritas Internationalis is a confederation of 162 national Catholic relief, development and social service organizations working in over 200 countries and territories. Confirmed by the Holy See in 1951 and based at Palazzo San Calisto in Vatican City, its general secretariat coordinates the confederation’s emergency response, advocacy and long-term development work.

Recruitment is carried out largely by the national members rather than centrally, so vacancies published here may come from any part of the confederation — among others Caritas Australia, Caritas Austria, Caritas Czech Republic, Caritas Switzerland, Caritas International Belgium and Secours Catholique – Caritas France. The member that posted a given vacancy is named on the job itself.

Caritas organizations work at the point where emergency relief meets long-term development: food security, health, migration, climate resilience and social protection, usually through local staff and partners already rooted in the communities they serve. Roles range from field programme and emergency response posts in the countries where members operate to policy, advocacy, fundraising and support functions at national headquarters and at the general secretariat in Rome.
