African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC)

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an African-led research-to-policy institution that generates evidence on population, health and development, strengthens research capacity and engages policymakers. It began as a Population Council fellowship programme and became an autonomous organization in 2001. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, with a West Africa regional office in Dakar, Senegal, it reports some 229 projects across 44 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

APHRC advertises all vacancies on the Careers page of its website. Openings include staff research and operations posts, consultancies, internships of three to six months, and short-term field roles such as survey interviewers for data collection. Most posts are based in Nairobi or Dakar, while field positions are tied to specific study sites. APHRC also runs research training and fellowship programmes for African scholars.

APHRC staff design and run studies on maternal and child health, urbanization, education, ageing, data science and health systems, and turn findings into policy engagement with governments and regional bodies. Roles include research scientists, postdoctoral fellows, data managers, programme and grants officers, and communications and operations staff. Most are based in Nairobi or at the West Africa regional office in Dakar.
