WBG Treasury is the Vice Presidency (VPU), reporting to the Managing Director and World Bank Group Chief Financial Officer, performing treasury functions for the IBRD, IDA and IFC and, to varying degrees, other members of the World Bank Group and other public and private sector entities. Its activities are organized and grouped into the following divisions: Capital Markets; Asset Management; Client Solutions & Structuring; Treasury Operations; Treasury Partnerships & Advisory; and Treasury Risk, Compliance & Controls. Treasury has been a large and significant participant in the international financial markets for over eighty years and has achieved a global reputation as a prudent and innovative borrower, investor, and risk manager. Treasury is responsible for: (i) managing approximately $300 billion in assets for the World Bank Group and other official sector investors; (ii) leading IBRD's, IDA's and IFC’s triple-A rated financing programs in international and domestic bond and derivative markets; (iii) conducting asset and liability management for IBRD's, IDA’s and IFC's balance sheets; (iv) overseeing the development and outreach related to the financing and hedging products the WBG provides for its developing-country clients; and (v) collaborating with the World Bank member countries to help build their financial markets related capacity through advisory services. Staff in Treasury regularly interact and work with other Departments across the Bank and IFC finance, operations, investment teams.

Treasury Summer Interns will work full-time for ten weeks, from June 1st  through August 9th , 2027, in Washington, DC. The program begins with a customized onboarding week, after which interns rotate through three different Treasury teams in three-week intervals. Throughout the summer, interns engage in weekly discussions with the program's director and attend technical and career-focused sessions with Treasury officers, managers, and directors. They also have access to the nearly 300-member Treasury team, including an opportunity to meet the Vice President & Treasurer. Each rotation concludes with a presentation to the respective team, and the internship culminates in a capstone project presented to the Treasury management team.

Duties and Responsibilities

The program will hire up to 17 interns across Treasury’s 17 teams for 2027 summer, and each intern will have a different rotation schedule to create a diverse and unique experience. Treasury comprises five main departments: Asset Management, Capital Markets, Partnerships and Advisory, Treasury Clients Solutions and Structuring, Treasury Operations, and Pension & Endowments, in addition to the Treasury Risk, Compliance, and Controls team. Throughout their internship, each participant will be paired with a mentor and coordinator for each rotation, to provide guidance and support. Selection Criteria

We ask that all applicants meet the following core eligibility requirements to be consistent with the program’s goals. Applicants must have these core requirements to be considered.

Education

Transcript(s) and/or enrollment letter(s) confirming your educational track: penultimate-year undergraduate student for the Undergraduate Track, or current master’s/Ph.D. student for the Postgraduate Track.

Undergraduate Track

A document confirming that you are a penultimate-year undergraduate student (e.g., enrollment certificate, transcript, or official letter from your university).

• Must be enrolled in the second-to-last year of the equivalent of a four-year college degree program in finance, business, economics, or a related field;
• Must be prepared to graduate with the equivalent of a four-year college degree between December 2027 and September 2028;
• Must be in good academic standing at their college or university;
• Must be available full-time throughout the internship
• Must not have a concurrent employment contract or internship. 
• Any candidate who misrepresents their application may be disqualified or terminated.

Successful Applicant Profiles
• Demonstrated paid work experience, previous internship, or leadership in a financial organization or club is strongly encouraged;
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written;
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate and develop productive relationships to achieve the team’s objectives;
• Proactive, resourceful, and flexible to work on a range of assignments and adapt to rapidly changing business requirements and priorities;
• Experienced with programming languages, such as Python, or specialized software for managing and visualizing economic and financial data;
• Strong research, analytical, and quantitative skills in data management;
• Demonstrated ability to research, extract, and process financial and economic data from various source systems and repositories, especially Bloomberg, World Bank Group or International Monetary Fund databases, and online sources;
• Highest ethical standards;
• Fluency in a second language is a plus.
