It is led by the Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank Group, who advises the President and senior managers, serves as the community leader for the WBG’s economists, and helps to keep the institution in the forefront of thinking about development policy. DEC constitutes one of the world’s largest teams of economists focused on policy solutions for developing economies. Located within the Development Economics Vice Presidency, the Development Research Group is the World Bank's principal research department. With its cross-cutting expertise on a broad range of topics and countries, the department is one of the most influential centers of development research in the world. DECRG experts are often cited by the media, the academic community, and other stakeholders interested in international development. Our researchers also provide support to the World Bank's Regions and Global Practices to help ensure that the institution's policy advice is firmly grounded in current knowledge. The department produces most of the World Bank’s research and enjoys a high international profile. Its activities aim to generate and disseminate new knowledge to inform the policy agenda. Regional studies and expertise developed at the Center will be shared with other countries. The Center will also draw on experiences from other countries and undertake joint activities with the World Bank Research Hub in Malaysia. Banking sector work already initiated by the World Bank and the Superintendencia de Bancos e Instituciones Financieras (Chilean Bank Superintendency, SBIF) will be integrated into this broader agenda. The research project focuses on fostering financial sector development in middle- and high-income economies with stable macroeconomic environments. The Center currently addresses the following interrelated research topics through academic papers and policy briefs, with varying levels of emphasis, as well as workshops organized around selected publications and topics:

• The impact of interest rate ceilings on credit.
• The development of capital markets and financial markets more broadly to improve market completeness, efficiency, and stability and expand access to finance.
• Corporate financing.
• The effects of institutional investors and benchmark indexes on capital flows and financial development.
• The interaction between financial integration and financial development.
• The use of fintech and big data in the financial industry to ease credit constraints. The Financial Research team at the Center will deliver a package of products and activities at least annually, including studies, policy papers, or policy briefs. All outputs will be posted online. The Financial Research team seeks an Extended-Term Consultant (ETC) to serve as a Research Assistant specializing in financial sector microdata. The Research Assistant will compile and work with large datasets and conduct econometric analyses. Duties and accountabilities We are seeking a motivated and highly skilled candidate with strong experience to undertake the following responsibilities:
• Produce research output at a level of a qualified candidate with international experience, working with large databases and econometric software.
• Perform econometric analyses.
• Conduct literature reviews and help to produce papers and research outputs related to financial development and financial integration.
