At the World Bank, a member of the World Bank Group (WBG), you’ll join a diverse, global community working across cultures, disciplines, and borders to address the world’s most pressing development challenges. With 1.2 billion young people reaching working age in the decade ahead, the challenge of job creation has never been greater. Through partnerships across 145 countries and more than 182 offices worldwide, we work with governments, private sector, development partners and other stakeholders to invest in people, strengthen markets, and deliver scalable, data-driven solutions that generate more and better jobs and improve lives. For more information, visit https://www.worldbank.org/en/who-we-are/ibrd Working at the World Bank Group provides a unique opportunity to help clients address major development challenges. The Western and Central Africa Region is geographically, culturally, and economically diverse, with significant development needs and opportunities for regional integration, institutional strengthening, and sustainable growth. The Institutions Global Department brings together professional disciplines working on public institutions, including procurement, public sector management, governance and anti-corruption, and financial management. The Western and Central Africa Procurement Unit is largely decentralized across country offices and is managed by Accredited Practice Managers based in Washington, DC and Dakar. The objective of this assignment is to strengthen the Unit’s capacity for procurement systems support, portfolio monitoring, reporting, quality assurance, business process improvement, and operational performance management. The Procurement E T Consultant (EC2) will support procurement managers, specialists, task teams, borrowers, and regional management through portfolio analytics, systems troubleshooting, knowledge management, and evidence-based decision support. The position will be one year extended consultancy (ETC) locally recruited at Grade EC2 and based in Washington, DC. We need the best and brightest talent focused on Sub-Saharan African countries in order to harness the potential and innovation happening across the continent. Africa is a continent on the move, with a young population and a growing market of nearly 1.2bn people. We are committed to making the Africa regional teams into leading innovation hubs. Yet, these vast opportunities are tempered by persistent gaps in education, health, and skills, which have Africa only reaching forty percent of its estimated potential. Moreover, conflict, food insecurity, population growth, and the disruptive forces of climate change threaten to curtail or even reverse the progress that has been made over the past decades. In West and Central Africa, the World Bank is a leading partner with a growing portfolio of 350 projects totaling more than $38 billion in areas such as agriculture, trade and transport, energy, education, health, water and sanitation- all to support job creation, gender equality, poverty reduction, and better lives. Across the continent, the World Bank’s program has nearly doubled over the last 10 years. By 2030, about 87% of the world’s extreme poor are projected to live in Sub-Saharan Africa, so this is where our mission to end extreme poverty and to promote shared prosperity will be achieved. Are you ready to make an impact? We are looking for dedicated professionals to join our innovative and diverse team to improve people’s lives and help countries build back better after COVID. https://www.worldbank.org/en/region/afr/western-and-central-africa Duties and Accountabilities The ETC - Procurement E T Consultant (EC2) will report to the Accredited Practice Managers based in Washington, DC and Dakar and will undertake the following tasks:
