Kar Geno – Centre for Hope is a community-based organization dedicated to restoring hope, dignity, and opportunity among marginalized communities in Western Kenya, with a particular focus on women and families affected by HIV/AIDS. Our mission is to promote socioeconomic empowerment through practical skills development, sustainable livelihoods, entrepreneurship, education, health awareness, and community-led initiatives. Our key objectives are to: * Empower disadvantaged women, particularly women affected by HIV/AIDS, widows, single mothers, and caregivers, with practical livelihood and income-generating skills. * Promote economic independence through tailoring, sustainable agriculture, food processing, entrepreneurship, savings, and microfinance initiatives. * Reduce poverty and vulnerability by strengthening sustainable household and community livelihoods. * Address HIV-related stigma through education, community engagement, economic empowerment, and supportive peer networks. * Improve access to health information and encourage healthier practices among women, young people, children, and families. * Strengthen food security and environmental sustainability through climate-smart and sustainable agricultural practices. * Support children and young people through education, mentorship, health awareness, and community activities. * Build the capacity of community groups to develop, manage, and sustain locally led solutions. * Promote dignity, inclusion, gender equality, self-reliance, and meaningful participation of marginalized people in community development.Context
Task Description
Kar Geno – Centre for Hope is seeking an experienced and creative Online Volunteer to help us improve and update our existing website so that it better communicates our mission, community programs, impact, and opportunities for involvement. Working remotely with our team, the volunteer will review the current website and recommend practical improvements to its structure, design, content presentation, navigation, and overall user experience. Depending on their skills and experience, the volunteer will support us with: * Reviewing the existing website and identifying areas that need improvement. * Editing and reorganizing existing pages and website content. * Improving the overall design, layout, navigation, and user experience. * Ensuring the website works effectively across desktop and mobile devices. * Improving the presentation of our programs, impact stories, photographs, volunteer opportunities, and organizational information. * Creating or improving sections that make it easier for potential volunteers, partners, donors, and supporters to understand our work and become involved. * Checking and correcting broken links, outdated information, formatting inconsistencies, and other basic website issues. * Providing recommendations on website accessibility, basic SEO, performance, and long-term maintenance. * Where possible, transferring basic website management knowledge to our local team so that we can confidently make routine updates after the assignment. The volunteer will collaborate closely with our team throughout the assignment. We will provide access to the existing website, organizational information, photographs, program descriptions, and other materials required to complete the work. Through this assignment, the Online Volunteer will help Kar Geno strengthen its digital presence and communicate the stories and work of women and communities in Western Kenya more effectively to a wider audience.Competencies and values
