Work Location

Jordan Field Office Department: Public Information Office (PIO), Front Office Supervisor: Public Information Officer / PIO Focal Point Travel: Travel within the Jordan Field Office area of operations, as required

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Content Creation and Social Media Support: ● Support the editing and scheduling of content for UNRWA Jordan's social media platforms (Facebook, X/Twitter). ● Assist in designing simple visuals, graphics, and posters using Canva or similar tools. ● Support basic photo and video editing for use across digital platforms. 2. Field and Event Support: ● Support the coverage of photographs and short videos during UNRWA activities, events, and field visits, as needed. 3. Research and Drafting Support ● Support research and background information gathering for stories, articles, and communication materials. ● Assist in drafting short-form content, captions, and internal updates under the guidance of PIO staff. 4. General and Administrative Support ● Support the organisation and maintenance of digital content files and media assets. ● Provide general administrative support to the PIO team, including scheduling, filing, and coordination tasks. ● Perform other duties as assigned by the Public Information Office team.

Qualifications/special skills

- Enrolled in or recently graduated (within the past 2 years) from a university degree programme in Communications, Media, Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field. - No prior professional experience required; prior coursework, volunteer experience, or internships in communications, social media, or content creation is an asset. - Basic familiarity with social media platforms and content creation tools (e.g., Canva) is preferable. Interest in humanitarian, development, or UN-related work is desirable.

Languages

● Good written and spoken command of English is required. ● Working knowledge of Arabic is desirable.

Background: UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to aid and protection to a population of 5.7 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA's services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance and emergency assistance. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions. The Jordan Field Office (JFO) operates within a dynamic environment, hosting over 2.4 million registered Palestine refugees and providing humanitarian and development services to more than 500,000 Palestine Refugees across 10 official camps in the Kingdom. The Public Information Office (PIO) plays a central role in ensuring transparent, proactive, and targeted communication with the refugee community, international donors, local media, and staff. Under the overall guidance of the PIO team, the intern will provide broad-based support across the full range of the office's day-to-day communications work — from content creation and social media support to event coverage, research, and administrative assistance — gaining hands-on exposure to public information and communications work within a humanitarian and UN context.
