The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC; French: Office des Nations unies contre la drogue et le crime) is a United Nations office that was established in 1997 as the Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention by combining the United Nations International Drug Control Program (UNDCP) and the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Division in the United Nations Office at Vienna, adopting the current name in 2002.Context
This selected candidate will work under the overall guidance of the Regional Representative, UNODC, Regional Office for South Asia and under the direct supervision of the UNODC Synthetic Drug Strategy Regional Coordinator for South Asia, located in New Delhi, Regional Office for South Asia (UNODC/ROSA) and in coordination with the Laboratory and Scientific Service (LSS), Drugs, Laboratory and Scientific Services Branch (DLSSB), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), based in headquarters in Vienna. Recognizing the rapidly evolving global synthetic drug landscape, UNODC launched the Synthetic Drug Strategy (SDS) to support Member States in developing comprehensive responses. Anchored in forensic science, the Strategy integrates four interconnected spheres of action: multilateralism and international cooperation, early warning, health responses, and counternarcotics interventions. The purpose of this assignment is to support the Regional Coordinator with implementation of the Synthetic Drug Strategy across South Asia through programme assistance, stakeholder engagement, strategic communications, background research and writing, coordination with national and regional counterparts, and the organization of technical activities and events.Task Description

The assignment will be based in New Delhi. New Delhi is the capital city of India, experiences a diverse climate and has distinct living conditions influenced by its weather, infrastructure, and culture. A melting pot of cultures, languages, and cuisines, reflecting the diverse nature of India. Overall, living in Delhi offers a mix of modern urban life with deep-rooted traditions and challenges typical of a large, bustling metropolis. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in New Delhi. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
