Mission and objectives
The fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child in all aspects of its programmatic and operational work. The equity strategy, which emphasizes directing resources towards the most disadvantaged and excluded children and families, is the means through which UNICEF translates its commitment to the rights of the child into action. For UNICEF, equity means that every child has an opportunity to survive, develop and reach their full potential without discrimination. Increasing evidence confirms that investments in the health, education and protection of the most disadvantaged members of society not only help children realize their potential, but also contribute to social development and the sustainable growth of countries. This is why a focus on equity is so important. On the one hand, it helps accelerate progress towards the realization of the rights of all children, which lies at the heart of UNICEF’s mandate and is grounded in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. On the other hand, it contributes to the equitable development of nations. UNICEF has been working in Venezuela since 1967, progressively expanding its support following the establishment of a UNICEF office in the country and the signing of the first cooperation agreement between Venezuela and UNICEF in 1991. UNICEF works in partnership with national and subnational authorities, civil society, academia and the private sector.Context
