Posting Title: Project Manager, Invest in Women & Sustainable Finance in Africa Location: New York, NY Duration: Two-year engagement Reports to: UN Global Compact Programme Leads on Sustainable Finance and Gender Equality POSITION SUMMARY As Project Manager, you will sit within the Sustainable Finance team and manage two cross-cutting grants that together advance women's economic participation and the mobilization of private capital for the Sustainable Development Goals. The first, the Invest in Women Initiative, works to expand women's access to capital, markets and leadership opportunities, with pilot activity in China, Kenya and Mexico and planned extension across Asia- Pacific and Latin America. The second, Scaling Sustainable Finance in Africa, builds the capacity of African companies and finance leaders to access and deploy sustainable finance. The two grants intersect on the African continent, where shared geographies, member companies and convening moments allow a single engagement to serve both agendas. Beyond Africa, the capital access for women workstream extends into Asia- Pacific and Latin America, so the role spans a genuinely global network rather than a single region. You will be expected to identify and act on the overlap where it exists — coordinating one roundtable that advances both objectives, for example, or carrying insight from an Africa convening into the Invest in Women Playbook — while managing each grant against its own workplan, results framework and donor commitments. Under the guidance of the UN Global Compact Programme Leads on Sustainable Finance and Gender Equality, you will be responsible for the network outreach, convening delivery and grant operations that both initiatives depend on. Both grants open with a diagnostic and design phase, and duties may include managing that work: commissioning and coordinating baseline research and contextual analysis of pilot markets, running consultations with regional participants to shape the programmatic offering, and supporting the development of a Theory of Change and accompanying results framework for each initiative. You will help translate the findings of that phase into the indicators, milestones and reporting structures used for the remainder of the grant, and will coordinate the consultants engaged to deliver diagnostic and knowledge products. You will work in close coordination with the Invest in Women Knowledge Production, Stakeholder Mapping and Programme Design Consultant, and closely with UN Global Compact Regional and Country Network Offices, the Africa Regional Hub in Abuja, and the Participant Engagement, Communications, Events, and UN and Government Relations teams. You will also coordinate with the CFO Coalition for the SDGs and the Africa Business Leaders Coalition on shared member engagement. Project management and organizing information are central to the role. You will maintain the workplan, budget tracker and reporting structures for both grants, serve as the point of contact for donor relationship management, and ensure that reporting obligations to each funder are met on schedule. The Invest in Women Initiative is a UN Global Compact effort engaging committed member companies worldwide to integrate women-led businesses into global supply chains and financial ecosystems. It is a platform where corporations, investors, financial institutions and ecosystem partners can collaborate to develop evidence, tools and practical guidance — anchored in the
Invest in Women Playbook — to expand women's access to capital, markets and leadership opportunities. Scaling Sustainable Finance in Africa is a UN Global Compact initiative to strengthen the capacity of African companies to access and deploy sustainable finance, delivered through the CFO Coalition for the SDGs, the Africa Business Leaders Coalition and the Growing Africa Business Initiative. It combines regional roundtables, capacity-building webinars, peer learning and knowledge products to connect African finance leaders with capital providers and with corporate peers in Europe and beyond. Across both initiatives the role covers the Invest in Women pilot markets of China, Kenya and Mexico, with extension into further Asia- Pacific and Latin American markets, alongside the African markets served by both grants — principally Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa, supported by the UN Global Compact Africa Regional Hub in Abuja. The UN Global Compact's work is delivered through a global network spanning 167 economies, including 10 Country Networks and a Regional Hub in Africa, with over 1,200 participants on the continent. By advancing women's economic leadership and mobilizing sustainable finance across African markets, these initiatives support progress toward SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and the closely linked SDGs 8, 10 and 17. - Manage the relationship with the UN Global Compact Africa Regional Hub in Abuja, Nigeria, as the delivery partner for Africa- linked activities under both grants.
- Build and maintain a coordination structure — contact directory, engagement calendar and communication protocols — that enables consistent, well-sequenced outreach across both initiatives and avoids duplicate approaches to shared network offices.
- Manage correspondence with network offices and carry out outreach to confirm host offices, local co-organizers and participating stakeholders for each consultation, roundtable and launch event.
- Support membership recruitment campaigns for the CFO Coalition for the SDGs and the Africa Business Leaders Coalition across African markets.
- Develop and distribute materials and communications that equip network offices to participate effectively. Event & Roundtable Coordination (35%)
- Lead end- to-end planning and delivery of Invest in Women consultations, roundtable dialogues and Playbook launch events, working closely with the Knowledge Consultant so that agendas reflect current research findings and stakeholder priorities.
- Coordinate the regional and national roundtables, capacity-building webinars and peer learning convenings delivered under Scaling Sustainable Finance in Africa, including sessions on gender-responsive procurement, investing in women entrepreneurs and mobilizing finance for climate action.
- Define the combined engagement calendar across both initiatives, sequencing convenings so that shared audiences are engaged coherently rather than repeatedly.
- Coordinate representation at Africa-specific convenings, including Unstoppable Africa — the Growing Africa Business Initiative's flagship annual event held during UN General Assembly High-Level Week — and GABI Bridge convenings focused on financing gender-inclusive solutions across trade, renewable energy, digital and health pathways.
- Support planning of a roundtable with Swedish UN Global Compact participants, drawn from a pool of 500+ companies, to facilitate engagement between Swedish and African companies.
- Identify and coordinate opportunities to elevate content from both initiatives at global fora, including the UN General Assembly, World Economic Forum, 2X Global Summit, COP and the Commission on the Status of Women, ensuring that committed member companies and ecosystem partners are engaged as active participants rather than passive audiences.
- Manage event logistics, invitations and registration, promotional materials, on- site relationship building, and post-event follow-up and reporting. Grant Management, Operations & Reporting (15%)
- Manage diagnostic phase activities for each grant, including baseline research, contextual analysis of pilot markets and regional consultations, and support development of the Theory of Change and results framework that follow from them.
- Coordinate the consultants engaged to deliver diagnostic, knowledge production and programme design work, ensuring outputs arrive on schedule and feed into the workplan.
- Develop and maintain a detailed workplan, timeline and budget tracker for each grant, flagging emerging risks or bottlenecks promptly to the relevant Programme Leads.
- Track engagement and participation across network offices and stakeholder groups against the results framework and indicators of each grant.
- Prepare progress updates and post-event reports capturing outcomes, stakeholder feedback and lessons learned, for incorporation into the Invest in Women Playbook, the scaling roadmap and donor reporting.
- Support donor relationship management for both grants, including thought-partnership touchpoints, reporting milestones and participation in related learning community convenings.
- Support outreach to potential founding members of an Invest in Women Advisory Council, drawing on the CFO Coalition and Sustainable Finance network.
- Serve as the point of contact for process-related questions from network offices, ensuring consistency in delivery across regions and across both initiatives.
- Complete a monthly scope of work tracker for review by the relevant Programme Lead to monitor progress and identify roadblocks. REPORTING & ACCOUNTABILITY The Project Manager reports to the UN Global Compact Programme Leads on Sustainable Finance and Gender Equality through regular one- on-one check-ins, and maintains close day-to-day
