Mission and objectives

UN Women is the United Nations entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. A global champion for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide. It is the global champion for gender equality, working to develop and uphold standards and create an environment in which every woman and girl can exercise her human rights and live up to her full potential. UN Women supports UN Member States as they set global standards for achieving gender equality, and works with governments and civil society to design laws, policies, programmes and services needed to ensure that the standards are effectively implemented and truly benefit women and girls worldwide. It works globally to make the vision of the Sustainable Development Goals a reality for women and girls and stands behind women’s equal participation in all aspects of life. To create an enabling environment for the realization of gender equality and women’s empowerment, UN Women Lebanon advocates and supports social mobilization for legislative reform, works with the partners and the Government of Lebanon to build gender responsive institutions, and delivers essential services to women and girls in need – Lebanese and refugees. Working for the empowerment and rights of women and girls globally, UN Women’s main roles are:

• To support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards and norms.
• To help Member States implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it, and to forge effective partnerships with civil society. To lead and coordinate the UN system’s work on gender equality, as well as promote accountability, including through regular monitoring of system-wide progress

Context

Every year, millions of people come together during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, from 25 November to 10 December, to call for an end to violence against women and girls. In 2026, the 16 days of activism Campaign's global theme is “UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls: Ensure Justice, Protect Survivors, End Impunity.” UN Women Lebanon will lead a UN Lebanon bilingual digital campaign featuring key messages, evidence and calls for action, supported by campaign visuals, videos, media materials and a dedicated campaign identity. But a campaign only creates change when its messages reach people. This is where you as Online Volunteers can make a difference. By joining the campaign, you will become part of a regional digital movement helping bring messages on women’s rights, safety, justice and survivor protection beyond UN Women’s own channels and into wider communities and networks. Your role is powerful: help the right message reach more people. Task Description

As an Online Volunteer, you will: - Follow UN Women Lebanon’s official social media channels and stay informed about the campaign’s messages and activities. - Share or repost at least 8 approved 16 Days campaign content through your own social media platforms and networks. - Support campaign visibility before and during the 16 Days campaign. - Use official campaign messages, visuals, hashtags, and links. - Encourage your networks to engage with and share campaign content. - Follow UN Women’s guidance for safe and respectful online engagement. You will have the freedom to decide where, when, and with which of your networks you amplify the campaign, based on the platforms and communities you are most connected to.
