Job Description

Org. Setting and Reporting

The temporary position is located within the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH). Pursuant to Security Council resolution 2793 (2025), UNSOH has been mandated to provide support; primarily to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), the Haitian National Police (HNP), and the Haitian Armed Forces in the context of any joint operations with the GSF. Additionally, UNSOH is tasked with delivering technical assistance to the Organization of American States (OAS). The incumbent provides support to UN Staff in the field and reports to the Workshop Supervisor or his/her designate, under the Chief Transport Officer. The temporary position is based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and is located with the Transport Section under Service Delivery Management Pillar of the Mission Support Division.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority and under the supervision of the logistic officer Supervisor, or his designated official, under the CTO, the Logistic Assistant will be responsible for all or some of the following duties:
  • Prepares material request orders for transfer of assets.
  • Prepares Service Entry Sheets and other actions within UMOJA and obtains the funding certification.
  • Liaises with relevant divisions/departments (e.g., procurement, accounting) with respect to verification and processing of invoices.
  • Maintains contact with relevant mission staff with respect to provision, co-ordination, monitoring and status of transport services.
  • Prepares requisitions and enters applicable systems data to initiate requisition process.
  • Follows-up and provides updates of ongoing logistics operations and planning as well as requisition status on a regular basis.
  • Assists staff within the Unit with respect to relevant procedures and practices.
  • Records and monitors contract activity.
  • Organizes and maintains contract files and Unit’s manuals.
  • Maintains and monitors relevant databases (e.g., stock levels of various supply items).
  • Generates relevant status reports.
  • Monitors insurance coverage of UN fleet.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Assists with incoming vehicle inspections and creation/maintenance of workshop work orders.
  • Maintains records of Transport asset movements and coordinates related documentation with MovCon.
  • Assists with Transport asset verification exercises and maintains repair and maintenance files for UN-owned transport assets.
  • Coordinates with the warehouse on workshop spare-parts requirements and supports vehicle recovery arrangements, as required.
  • Assists in workshop incoming vehicles inspection and work order creation
  • Manages and maintains records of Transport assets movements in liaison with Movcon.
  • Monitors and submits attendance records for Workshop Mechanics.
  • Assists in preparation and execution of the Transport assets verification exercise.
  • Assists in the delivery of completed vehicles from workshop.
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining relevant repairs and maintenance files for UNOE Transport assets.
  • Assists in coordinating with warehouse on spare parts requirements for workshop
  • Assists in the mission vehicle recovery plan and assists in coordinating the implementation.
  • Assists in arranging transportation for clients dropping off vehicles at the workshop.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification

A valid driver's license for "B" category is required (a copy of a valid driving license must be attached). A Diploma/Certificate in Administration/Logistics (National Certificate or equivalent) is desirable (A copy of the certificate should be attached)

Work Experience

At least three (03) years of progressively responsible experience of practical logistics operations or related area is required. Experience in air freight, sea freight and/or road transportation policies and practices is desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice

This temporary job opening is available for three months and is being advertised for advance planning purposes pending formal approval of the relevant funding and staffing structures.
