Family Support Specialist IFES & IFSS - Multiple Roles Available

In these full and part-time roles, you’ll work as a part of our Intensive Family Engagement Service (IFES) and Integrated Family Support Service (IFSS) in both Hobart and Launceston to help us create lasting change for children everywhere.

Successful applicants will primarily work as Family Support Specialists within either our IFES or IFSS team. As part of the role, there may be opportunities to contribute across both teams and the Intensive Restoration Program (IRP). Based in our Hobart or Launceston offices, these roles make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families.

As a Family Support Specialist in either team, you will make a difference by:

• Providing families with a coordinated, professional family support service
• Providing case management support to families through outreach and home visits
• Building family capacity in a family partnership service model, using strengths and family-centred approaches
• Providing evidence-based, trauma-informed parenting information and education material

As a Family Support Specialist in our IFES team, you will make a difference by:

• Working intensively with families whose children are likely to experience further statutory involvement if worries are not addressed urgently
• Working collaboratively with Child Safety Service to deliver support and manage risk
• Provide an average of around 10 hours targeted intensive support per family per week, holding a caseload of around 3 to 4 families.
• Average duration of IFES involvement per family is between 20 and 30 weeks.

As a Family Support Specialist in our IFSS team, you will make a difference by:

• Working with families whose have voluntarily sought parenting support and education for a diverse and varied range of reasons
• Working collaboratively with parents, stakeholders and community to ensure support is holistic and sustainable
• Provide 1 hour of face-to-face support per family per week, visiting an average of 3 families per day
• Average duration of IFSS support per family is 52 weeks.

Your ability to think on your feet will see you find solutions to complex situations, and your experience in similar roles will see you able to hit the ground running. Your cultural knowledge will help you build strong connections with people from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. You have empathy, a ‘can-do attitude’ and most importantly, an infectious enthusiasm for your role. In the IFES team, your deep expertise in working alongside families and children involved with Child Safety Services, especially the Out of Home Care system, will be invaluable.

These roles require:

• Degree (strongly preferred) or Diploma in Social Work, Health or allied areas and significant relevant experience
• Demonstrated experience in case management, working alongside families using partnership, strengths-based and family-centred approaches
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and families
• Demonstrated understanding of the challenges most frequently experienced by the families we support and the ability to engage parents to address these challenges
• Understanding of the importance of the “early years” and the impact of trauma on child development
• A commitment to high-quality administrative practice that is timely, accurate and reputable
• Flexibility and a willingness to deliver outcomes with families across multiple family support teams when required
