Organizational Setting
The Division of Energy Planning and Nuclear Information and Knowledge comprises the Planning and Economic Studies Section, Nuclear Knowledge Management Section and the Nuclear Information Section. The Division is responsible for strengthening capacities in energy and nuclear power planning, building capacities to manage nuclear knowledge and provide knowledge management services to interested member states, and to procure and provide printed and electronic information in the area of nuclear science and technology.
The Nuclear Information Section (NIS) consists of the IAEA Library Unit, the INIS Unit and the Systems Development and Support Group. It foster the exchange of scientific and technical information on the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology; increases awareness in Member States of the importance of maintaining efficient and effective systems for managing such information; provides information services and support to Member States and to the IAEA; and assists with capacity building and training.
Main Purpose
Under the supervision of the Library Coordinator, the Library Associate performs descriptive cataloguing and metadata creation for digital and physical information resources in the LMS for inclusion into the library collections according to the IAEA Lise Meitner Library and international information management standards. Also, the Library Associate provides information services to the library users and LMS support to the Library Team to enable optimum use of the system.
Functions / Key Results Expected
Create, maintain, and enhance quality bibliographic, authority, and metadata records for print, and digital library resources in accordance with international cataloguing and metadata standards, including RDA, MARC21, and related frameworks.
Review and update existing of metadata records to ensure accuracy, consistency, discoverability, and compliance with evolving standards, authority control practices, and institutional policies.
Assign classification numbers, subject headings, descriptors, and keywords using recognized controlled vocabularies and classification systems; prepare and manage related item identification processes, including spine labels, and barcodes to support discoverability of information materials in the catalogue.
Provide information services at the information desk, including circulation, basic reference support, and user guidance.
Support metadata governance and quality assurance activities by interpreting cataloguing standards, resolving bibliographic and metadata issues, and preparing reports as needed.
Contribute to the configuration, testing, optimizing usage of the Library Management System (LMS) and associated discovery platform, including enhancements to cataloguing, circulation, acquisitions, serials, and resource-sharing workflows.
Perform automation of routine tasks such as metadata import, notifications, and reporting and assist in optimizing metadata synchronization, and workflow automation to improve operational efficiency, data consistency, and user access to information resources.
Perform any other library related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills
Completed secondary education.
University degree (bachelor) in any field an asset.
Formal training in library work and cataloguing an asset.
Minimum of six years of relevant working experience, of which five years is related to cataloguing/metadata in a library environment.
Work experience in an international environment is an asset.
Experience working with MARC 21 (Machine Readable Cataloguing), AACR2 (Anglo American Cataloguing Rules), RDA (Resource Description and Access), LCSH (Library of Congress Subject Heading) and UDC (Universal Decimal Classification) is a requirement as is knowledge/proficiency with current technology.
Understanding of BIBFRAME and RDF will be an added advantage.
Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
Administrative skills testing to IAEA standard might be part of the selection process.

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 68788 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), 6 weeks' annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance.
