The IAEA accepts a limited number of interns each year. The internships are awarded to persons studying towards a university degree or who have recently received a degree (see Internship web pages for further details).

The purpose of the programme is:

  • To provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies or interests, and expose them to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole;

  • To benefit the IAEA's programmes through the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.

The duration of an internship is normally not less than three months and not more than one year.

Organizational Setting

The Division of Planning, Information and Knowledge Management comprises the Planning and Economic Studies Section, Nuclear Knowledge Management Section, Nuclear Information Section and Nuclear Systems Support and Development Group. The Division is responsible for strengthening capacities in energy and nuclear power planning, building capacities to manage nuclear knowledge and provide knowledge management services to interested member states, and to procure and provide printed and electronic information in the area of nuclear science and technology.

Main Purpose

The internship aims to support NSSDG in the operation and improvement of the IAEA's Cyber Learning Platform for Network Education and Training (CLP4NET). The intern will assist with platform administration, user support, testing and reporting, while gaining practical experience in the delivery of digital learning services in an international environment. He/she will also support the development of e-learning products related to programmatic activities of the Department of Nuclear Energy.

Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Under supervision of the NSSDG Coordinator, the intern will:

  • Assist with the day-to-day administration of CLP4NET, including setting up course spaces, uploading and updating approved learning materials, and maintaining course information and metadata.

  • Support user registration and enrolment, respond to routine access queries and assist with basic troubleshooting, referring more complex issues to the responsible technical colleagues.

  • Assist in testing e-learning courses and platform updates, documenting test results and issues, and following up on corrective actions.

  • Collect, check and organize course and participation data, and prepare and analyze usage statistics and visual summaries to support monitoring and reporting.

  • Assist in preparing and updating user guidance, operating procedures and records of platform changes.

  • Liaise with course owners and technical colleagues to clarify requirements, coordinate course updates and follow up on agreed actions.

  • Develop e-learning products, as needed, to support the programmatic activities of the Department of Nuclear Energy

Qualifications and Experience

  • University Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Communications Engineering or a related field.

  • Familiarity with digital platforms, user account administration and basic IT troubleshooting.

  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), including the ability to organize and analyze data and prepare clear summaries.

  • Familiarity with learning management systems such as Moodle, web content management or basic scripting is considered an asset.

  • Good organizational and communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a team.

  • Excellent written and spoken English is essential.

  • Knowledge of any additional IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is considered an asset.

Applicant Eligibility

  • Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.

  • Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree.

  • Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship programme.

  • Good written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish or Russian) an asset.

  • Candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application.
