• Working arrangement: EUROCONTROL operates a hybrid working model, combining onsite presence with teleworking opportunities. Teleworking is subject to the applicable internal rules and is granted in line with business needs and managerial approval.

  In addition, all staff may telework from a location of their choice for up to 20 working days per calendar year, with line manager authorisation. These 20 days do not count towards the 50% monthly limit.

Your team

Within the The Aviation Transformation Directorate, the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub (EIH) carries out research, innovation and simulation activities to help improve European aviation performance, safety and sustainability, bridging the gap between R&D and operations. The EIH also addresses emerging new technologies as well as deployment of drones and urban air mobility systems.

You will contribute to the coordination between research projects and simulation platform teams by collecting and consolidating operational requirements, supporting their translation into technical solutions, and assisting in the testing and validation of these solutions within the simulation platforms.

Your role

Your role will be to:

• Support the technical interface between research projects and the team responsible for the development of the simulation platform and identify and consolidate the operational requirements related to system evolution.
• In cooperation with the team responsible for the development of the simulation platform, contribute to the required platform enhancements and assist in translating them into technical requirements and change requests, while subsequently ensuring their proper implementation.
• Organise, validate, and manage data for testing, simulation, and analysis to support accurate and effective simulation platforms evaluations.
• Assist in configuring, testing, and deploying simulation platforms and associated tools updates and migrations, ensuring readiness and acceptance by project users, addressing any identified issues.
• Participate in validation exercises conducted as part of research projects, help ensure the smooth running of the simulation platform’s technical operations, assist in managing platform-related issues and contribute to the identification and implementation of corrective actions where required.
• Actively contribute to meetings and debriefing sessions related to validation exercises, including the sharing of lessons learned on the technical aspects.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including test scenarios and reports, and provide regular reports to project managers on activities performed, providing actionable insights and updates.
• Assist in the development of new tools, methodologies, and workflows to enhance testing efficiency, simulation platforms quality, and overall productivity.
• Provide technical support and training to users of the simulation platforms and tools, responding to inquiries and guiding them in using their features.
• Contribute to training materials and conduct presentations as needed to support end-users and internal teams.
• Develop knowledge and skills in field of expertise under the guidance of more senior staff.
• Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

• Candidates must fulfil the following educational and professional experience requirements:
• Post secondary education in a relevant domain (e.g. Computer Science, (Aerospace) Engineering or any other related field), meeting European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Level 5 or higher followed by a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in engineering activities, at least 3 of them in Air Traffic Management domain.
• Holding a Bachelor’s degree would be an advantage.
• Internal candidates can check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
• Experience in the identification and collection of users’ needs, and in defining corresponding technical software specifications.
• Good knowledge in ATM operations (specifically in ATC and Network Management operations).
• Experience in ATM simulation platforms (e.g. INNOVE, NMVP, ESCAPE, eDEP, PLANTA, ….).
• Knowledge in software verification and validation.
• Experience in SESAR and R&I projects in the last 3 years.
• Ability to identify, analyse and resolve technical issues and present them clearly and effectively.
• Knowledge or Experience in the following will be an asset:
  • Knowledge of Linux, virtual and cloud environment, shell scripting.
  • E-OCVM methodology
  • Use of AI-based tools for professional tasks
• Technical drafting and presenting skills (English).

A conversion to an undetermined duration appointment is possible where all of the following cumulative conditions are met: the post is confirmed as being of a lasting nature; the staff member has completed at least five years of service; the staff member’s performance has been satisfactory; and the conversion is in the interests of the service. Conversion is therefore not automatic.

  • Renewal(s): This appointment may be renewed several times, but its total duration, including all renewal periods, may not exceed nine (9) years.
  • Conversion: Conversion to an undetermined duration appointment is possible where all of the following cumulative conditions are met: the post is confirmed as being of a lasting nature; the staff member has completed at least five years of service; the staff member’s performance has been satisfactory; and the conversion is in the interests of the service. Conversion is therefore not automatic.
  Internal staff appointed for an undetermined period
  • Retain their current type of appointment duration.
  At the end of the 5 Year period of the post for which they were selected:
  • If the assignment is extended, they will continue in the post in accordance with the applicable rules.
  • If the assignment is not extended and/or the duties are not confirmed as being of a lasting nature, they will be transferred to another post corresponding to their “previous” type of post, job level, and function group.
• The selected candidate must successfully complete a probationary period of nine (9) months before being established in the post.
• The selected candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level.
