Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO), the Chief of Staff is the CRO’s right hand and the connective spine of Resource Development (RD) — a trusted advisor who acts with delegated authority, holds the division’s biggest cross-team initiatives together, and owns its central operational engine so the CRO is freed to focus on CARE’s biggest new growth opportunities. The role provides senior leadership to RD’s central Execution & Performance function (Performance, Analytics & AI; Gift Processing & Supporter Care; Planning & Analysis) through the Executive Director, oversees the new Global Markets & Resource Mobilization function, manages the central CRO team budget, and leads the implementation of organisation-wide priorities across a diverse set of channels. It joins up the dots across RD — driving cross-channel collaboration, the strong running of the Senior Leadership Team, and one cohesive, world-class culture of performance and belonging. A member of the RD Senior Leadership Team, the Chief of Staff leads the division’s central operational engine rather than a fundraising channel, working in close partnership with the channel leads. Leading a small Office of the CRO (Executive Assistant and Cross-Team Coordinator), it is accountable for ensuring nothing falls through the cracks — from the CRO’s most strategic priorities to the operational detail — personally driving the high-judgment work and directing the team on the rest. As the bridge between the CRO, the RD Senior Leadership Team, and teams across CARE, it turns strategy into delivery and creates the capacity for CARE’s Revenue Strategy to accelerate. RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as the CRO’s right hand and lead the Office of the CRO Act as trusted advisor, thought partner, and sounding board to the CRO — bringing judgment and discretion to the CRO’s most important decisions and priorities. Act with delegated authority on the CRO’s behalf — representing and deputising for the CRO in meetings and forums, and ensuring decisions are made, communicated, and followed through. Lead a small, high-performing Office of the CRO (Executive Assistant and Cross-Team Coordinator) accountable for the CRO being prepared, protected, and ahead — setting the standard, owning the outcomes, and personally handling the high-judgment work. Ensure the CRO is fully prepared for every high-stakes moment — Board and ELT engagements, donor meetings, All Staff — personally writing and creating briefings, talking points, and presentations, not only coordinating them. Own the CRO’s information flow: direct constant management of the inbox and correspondence, triaging and prioritising so nothing time-sensitive is missed. Establish and maintain a daily dashboard giving the CRO a real-time view of priorities, commitments, decisions pending, and key metrics. Write on the CRO’s behalf and in the CRO’s voice, and use AI fluently to bring efficiency, speed, and impact across the Office of the CRO. Manage the central CRO team budget effectively, deploying resources to the highest-value priorities. Hold together and drive follow-through on the CRO’s commitments and the major cross-team projects the CRO is personally sponsoring. Lead RD’s central Execution & Performance engine Provide senior leadership to the central function that powers RD, line-managing the Executive Director, Performance, Analytics & AI, and overseeing — through the ED — Gift Processing & Supporter Care and Planning & Analysis. Drive a significant step-up in dynamic analytics and insight-driven performance across the engine — ensuring data, analytics and AI capability, gift processing, and financial planning work as one, in service of the channels and the donor experience. Partner with the Strategy and Finance teams and others to contribute to overall performance management and reporting across RD. Own the operating rhythm of RD — planning cycles, performance reviews, and cross-channel campaigns and activity — so operations move at the speed of fundraising and the market. Line-manage the Director, Global Markets & Resource Mobilization — a lighter-touch supervisory relationship supporting the Director to build the new function that connects fundraising opportunities across CARE members, supports Country Offices, and sets up new markets. Partner with Digital as RD’s customer, respecting their ownership of the technology stack and data governance. Drive the CRO’s biggest priorities and organisation-wide implementation across RD Lead team-wide strategic and change initiatives on behalf of the CRO, with strong project management and a results-based approach — freeing the CRO to focus on new strategic growth. Take the lead on implementing organisation-wide priorities and processes across RD in the most effective way, tailoring enterprise initiatives to land well across a diverse set of channels. Build and sustain close partnership with the Office of the President, Programs, Marketing, Finance, and other key teams across CARE. Represent RD and enable the CRO to delegate CARE-wide project leadership where appropriate; provide proactive status briefings and remove roadblocks. Join up the dots: SLT rhythm, cross-channel collaboration, and a cohesive RD culture Join up the dots across RD — connecting channels, functions, and initiatives, actively encouraging cross-channel collaboration so the whole division moves together. Support the strong running of the RD Senior Leadership Team — owning the SLT operating rhythm and cadence (agendas, meetings, offsites, decisions, and follow-up) so the team runs with discipline and pace. Across a deliberately diverse set of channels, build and sustain one cohesive Resource Development culture — focused on world-class excellence, a culture of performance, and a strong sense of belonging and community. Support the CRO to inspire and engage the whole RD team, and oversee internal communications across RD and with global fundraising leadership across the CARE confederation.
