We seek candidates who demonstrate strong leadership potential, exceptional technical skills, and a clear commitment to our mission and values. As a YP, you will collaborate with colleagues across disciplines and institutions, applying your expertise to help address pressing development challenges and improve lives around the world.

YPs join the World Bank Group on an initial two-year term contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance. During this period, YPs complete three eight-month rotations: one with their primary function and area of expertise, one cross-institutional rotation, and at least one rotation based in a country office.  These assignments enable YPs deepen their technical and operational knowledge while gaining experience across different areas of the institution.

Through the YP Academy, YPs undertake a structured learning and development journey that includes technical and operational training, language programs, negotiation and business skills, and leadership development. They also receive individual coaching, connect with mentors, and participate in strategic dialogues with senior leaders.

The World Bank Group Climate Change Department, known as One Climate, works across IBRD/IDA, IFC, and MIGA to help countries and private-sector clients integrate climate into development and investment decisions and scale solutions that deliver measurable impact. It combines expertise across policy, analytics, finance, and operations, bringing together public- and private-sector perspectives.

Within One Climate, the Sustainable Finance and Transaction Solutions team sits at the intersection of climate priorities and investment decisions, bridging methodologies and operational delivery across public and private sectors. Drawing on climate, financial, operational, and market expertise, it translates WBG climate objectives into practical decisions, supports the structuring of sustainable finance transactions, and expands the WBG’s sustainable finance offering for clients.

Its ambition is to build an integrated, scalable One WBG climate delivery model: implementing Paris Alignment (PA) and climate co-benefits (CCB); advancing climate outcome metrics; developing adaptation and resilience (A&R) and sustainable finance solutions that mobilize capital; supporting material and innovative transactions; and turning operational experience into replicable tools and approaches.

What you will deliver

You will contribute across this agenda, with a particular focus on structuring sustainable finance transactions, expanding the offering, and scaling successful solutions across sectors and markets.
  • Translate climate priorities into practical operational and investment solutions across IBRD/IDA and IFC, including sustainable finance approaches and proportionate application of PA, CCB, and climate risk.
  • Advance climate outcome measurement through technical and operational pilots for net GHG and resilience beneficiaries, and coherent approaches to gross, net, and financed emissions, coordinating with other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to One Climate’s integrated A&R agenda by linking physical climate-risk intelligence, adaptation finance, outcome metrics, and origination to ready-to-use solutions, including adaptation-focused sustainability-linked finance.
  • Support material, complex, innovative, or precedent-setting operations and transactions; identify climate risks and opportunities; and contribute to structuring credible sustainable finance instruments and frameworks, including KPIs, targets, and other transaction features.
  • Partner with operational, sector, financial, legal, treasury, data, and technology teams to develop and test new financial products and digital or AI-enabled tools; codify lessons into guidance and training that support consistent delivery and replication at scale.
  • Support One Climate’s WBG-wide and global leadership through research, MDB harmonization, stakeholder engagement, and coordinated briefs for management and the Board.
  • Manage workstreams and contribute to cross-institutional and country assignments under the YPP rotation model.
