Job Description

The hiring unit conducts applied research on how energy access, service reliability, and productive uses of electricity affect households, firms, public services, and local economic development. The portfolio includes studies at different stages of the research cycle, from study design and survey instrument development through data collection, analysis, and dissemination. The Fellow will work closely with DECPT research economists working on energy: primarily Megan Lang but with the possibility of also working with Abdoulaye Cisse and Govinda Timilsina. The Fellow will be providing high-quality research assistance across this portfolio and helping produce rigorous, policy-relevant evidence. Most studies that the Fellow works on will be on countries in East and West Africa, with a smaller number being in the Middle East/North Africa. Duties and Responsibilities The Fellow will support a range of empirical studies related to energy access, reliability, and productive use. Responsibilities will include: cleaning, merging, documenting, and managing survey and administrative datasets; conducting statistical and econometric analysis in Stata and R; preparing reproducible code, tables, figures, and research documentation; supporting literature reviews and the preparation of background notes and presentations; contributing to survey instruments, data-quality protocols, and fieldwork monitoring tools; conducting consistency and quality checks and clearly communicating findings; and supporting the preparation of research outputs, policy notes, and other dissemination materials. Depending on the Fellow’s future interests, certain projects carry the potential for co-authorship. The Fellow will be expected to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and maintain careful and reproducible workflows.
