Job Description

At the World Bank, a member of the World Bank Group (WBG), you’ll join a diverse, global community working across cultures, disciplines, and borders to address the world’s most pressing development challenges. With 1.2 billion young people reaching working age in the decade ahead, the challenge of job creation has never been greater. Through partnerships across 145 countries and more than 182 offices worldwide, we work with governments, private sector, development partners and other stakeholders to invest in people, strengthen markets, and deliver scalable, data-driven solutions that generate more and better jobs and improve lives. For more information, visit https://www.worldbank.org/en/who-we-are/ibrd The Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC) is the World Bank’s central reservoir of fresh insights into the most pressing challenges of development. It is led by the Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank Group, who advises the President and senior managers, serves as the community leader for the WBG’s economists, and helps to keep the institution in the forefront of thinking about development policy. DEC constitutes one of the world’s largest teams of economists focused on policy solutions for developing economies. The World Development Report (WDR) is the World Bank Group’s flagship annual publication since 1978. Each Report examines a single theme of central importance to development, providing in-depth analysis and policy recommendations. The WDR is sponsored by the Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC) and prepared under the oversight of the Chief Economist of the World Bank Group. The WDR 2027, on Jobs, presents a dynamic framework to help countries design stronger jobs policies for a changing world by providing new insights on the extent to which primary constraints stem from firm growth, labor supply, or frictions that prevent labor markets from clearing across space and time. The Report shifts attention from the sheer number of jobs toward building systems that support productive firms, enable worker mobility, and foster economies capable of adapting to structural and technological change. The WDR 2027 team is looking for a highly motivated research analyst (under an Extended-Term contract) with strong data analysis skills and a desire to gain experience in conducting research. This research analyst position provides a solid foundation in data analysis and research design that is essential for advanced academic work.

Duties and Accountabilities

The WDR team is recruiting an Extended-Term Consultant (ETC) to assist the team with the report’s empirical and analytical work. The primary duties and deliverables of the ETC will be as follows:

  • Organize data from a range of internal and external sources.
  • Develop and maintain computer programs to process and harmonize data, produce descriptive statistics, and conduct econometric analyses.
  • Prepare and troubleshoot charts for publications.
  • Conduct literature reviews on relevant topics.
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations for different audiences.
  • Provide other research assistance to the team, as needed.
  • Assist the WDR Director, Deputy Director, TTL and other team members with related tasks, as required.
  • Contribute, where possible, to the conceptual thinking and/or empirical strategy of research projects that are a part of the team’s analytical work program.
