Job Description

At the World Bank, a member of the World Bank Group (WBG), you’ll join a diverse, global community working across cultures, disciplines, and borders to address the world’s most pressing development challenges. With 1.2 billion young people reaching working age in the decade ahead, the challenge of job creation has never been greater. Through partnerships across 145 countries and more than 182 offices worldwide, we work with governments, private sector, development partners and other stakeholders to invest in people, strengthen markets, and deliver scalable, data-driven solutions that generate more and better jobs and improve lives. For more information, visit https://www.worldbank.org/en/who-we-are/ibrd The Governance unit in Eastern Africa (EAEG1) is part of the Prosperity Department. The unit’s work program includes Public Sector Management where we help countries build capable, efficient, open, inclusive and accountable institutions as well as Financial Management where we provide fiduciary assurance of World Bank financed operations. With the increased lending portfolio in the region as well as the drive to manage fiduciary risks in an efficient and effective manner, the need to provide robust financial management support to task teams as well as capacity building and technical assistance to client governments in the area of financial management have become very critical. To achieve these goals, EAEG1 strengthened the FM team of the unit by converting selected Short Term Consultants (STCs) into Extended Term Consultants (ETCs). At the time three STCs could not be converted due to technical reasons that have since been resolved. This Terms of Reference (TOR) describes the duties and responsibilities of the ST being converted to ETC in the Tanzania Country Management Unit (CMU).

  • Promote effective reliance on country systems as deemed appropriate, greater use of technology for fiduciary due diligence and implementation support and streamlining of FM and disbursement processes.
  • Contribute to the provision of operational, policy, analytical, and advisory support to strengthen PFM systems and institutions, through the Institutions Unit work program and through sector interventions.
  • Support the generation and exchange knowledge relating to FM and PFM subject matters.
  • Contribute to the provision of high-quality inputs to portfolio reports, as well as corporate tasks such as the preparation of country briefs, inputs to thematic notes and knowledge and learning events.
