MIGA was established in 1988 to enhance the flow of capital and knowledge to developing countries and executes its mandate by providing political risk insurance and credit enhancement products against non-commercial risks for cross-border equity investors and lenders in its member countries. As of July 2024, MIGA is home to the WBG Guarantees Platform. The platform brings together guarantee products and experts from across the WBG – the International Finance Corporation (IFC), MIGA, and the World Bank – for efficiency, simplicity, and speed. MIGA’s Gender team is a part of Gender and Evaluation group within the Economics and Sustainability department (MIGES) under the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (MIGCS). MIGA seeks to maximize the gender differentiated impacts of its projects. MIGA’s prioritizes building on the foundation it laid to enhance effective gender interventions in the private sector. MIGA’s Gender Team oversees the implementation of the WBG Gender Strategy 2024-2030, provides technical support to staff and clients, and supports staff training and capacity building. To ensure successful and timely implementation of MIGA’s gender ambitions, MIGA’s Gender Team seeks to recruit a Senior Gender Specialist with expertise in gender, gender analysis, gender interventions in the private sector, strategy implementation, and project management. The Senior Gender Specialist will support MIGA and its Gender Team in its corporate, client engagement and partnerships activities. We are looking for a motivated and dynamic professional with experience in addressing gender and inclusion issues in the context of private sector operations, exceptional analytical skills, and a track record of managing processes working across teams. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Senior Gender Specialist will support MIGA's commitment toward operationalizing the 2024-2030 World Bank Group Gender Strategy and Implementation Plan. To do so, the Senior Gender Specialist will be expected to:
  • Lead MIGA's client gender engagement on a selected portfolio of projects across sectors and across the WBG Guarantee Platform, including:
  • Strategic engagement with clients to assess their interest, capacity, and readiness to undertake gender actions that narrow gaps.
  • In-depth gender gap analysis at the sector and country level, and identification of measurable, high-impact client actions based on evidence and best practice.
  • Close collaboration with MIGA project teams throughout the gender project lifecycle, providing technical guidance and quality assurance.
  • Engage actively with the WBG's Knowledge Bank to ensure that the latest research, tools, and best practices on gender are identified and integrated into client engagement and project design.
  • Lead monitoring of gender Scorecard Indicators for projects within this specialist's portfolio, including target setting, results tracking, and reporting.
  • Serve as an expert resource to the Gender Team on Financial Institutions Group (FIG) projects, providing guidance, technical oversight, and support to other team members working on FIG engagements as needed.
  • Build internal capacity on gender across the Gender Team and MIGA more broadly, including developing training materials, mentoring junior staff, and serving as a technical resource for colleagues on gender integration in operations.
  • Lead and support key external partnerships that support client engagement and enhance the quality of MIGA's gender work, including with organizations such as the Financial Alliance for Women, as well as coordination with relevant WBG partners.
  • Manage and oversee activities supported by the Umbrella Facility for Gender Equality (UFGE), including implementation oversight of UFGE-sponsored projects, donor reporting, and coordination with the World Bank Gender Group.
  • Play a key role in the ongoing integration of gender into WBG Guarantee Platform operations, including contributing to updates to the Gender Flag approach and coordinating with World Bank and IFC counterparts to ensure alignment and coherence across the platform.
  • Lead and coordinate ad hoc activities related to the operationalization of the WBG Gender Strategy and Implementation Plan, including providing senior-level input into strategy development and policy discussions.
