UNHCR is mandated to protect people forced to flee and stateless persons, safeguard their rights and support solutions to displacement. In India, UNHCR works with the Government, UN entities, civil society, refugee-led organizations and other stakeholders to strengthen protection, promote inclusion and advance solutions for refugees and asylum-seekers. Reliable data, analysis and evidence are essential to understand needs and risks, monitor progress, improve programme quality and inform decision-making, reporting and advocacy.Context
The UN Volunteer will support UNHCR India in strengthening the collection, management, analysis and use of operational and programme data. The assignment combines data analysis with monitoring and evaluation support and will contribute to the production of credible evidence on UNHCR results and on the situation of the people with and for whom UNHCR works. The UN Volunteer will work with colleagues across functions and, as appropriate, with partners to help maintain data sets and information products, support monitoring activities, review data quality and translate findings into accessible analysis for planning, reporting and programme improvement. This is an entry-level, learning-oriented assignment. The UN Volunteer will work under close supervision and receive structured guidance, mentoring and feedback. New Delhi is the capital city of India. The city is culturally diverse, economically vibrant and a well-developed urban environment. It is a category B family duty station. There are many excellent international schools in the city. Private healthcare is very good, and the city is a destination for UNHCR staff that require emergency medical evacuation. App-based delivery and services are also abundant for daily needs. It has a large expat population. A seasonal environmental concern is severe air pollution caused by vehicle exhaust and slash-and-burn agricultural activities in the neighboring states of Delhi. The severity of some months has resulted in schools being closed and WHO putting out a health warning for individuals who have respiratory and related health challenges. Air pollution is a health concern particularly for those suffering from allergies or respiratory illnesses. The prolonged exposure to air pollutants can be detrimental to one’s health and can contribute to breathing problems, development of chronic diseases, deterioration of health status in individuals with chronic diseases. Usage of N-95 is encouraged when outdoors during air pollution season. The UNHCR office building is equipped with an air purification system to mitigate the air pollution inside the building. Dengue fever is also a risk during or following the monsoon season. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in New Delhi. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
