International: Communication Intern [Japan National]

The Position:

Under the direct supervision of the Communication Specialist, the communication intern will gain valuable experience in the field of communication for international development. The intern will play a key role in supporting the creation and dissemination of content that raises awareness of UNFPA's work on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and youth development in the Pacific region. 

A work-plan with achievements for the duration of the Internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon. Periodic progress meetings will lead to a beneficial environment for the Intern enhancing their skills and capacity in areas related to the UNFPA’s mandate.

UNFPA is seeking a highly motivated and creative intern to support the communication team in developing and delivering engaging multimedia content.

Job Purpose:

You would be responsible for:

• Assist in developing content for various communication channels, including social media, websites, and publications. This will include: 
  • Short videos
  • Web stories  
  • Animations 
  •  Infographics 
• Video Editing: Assisting with editing existing video footage, creating short video clips, and adding graphics and animations. Assist with developing storyboards and scripts for multimedia content. 
• Social Media Management: Assisting with scheduling and posting engaging content on UNFPA’s social media channels. 
• Graphic Design: Creating infographics, presentations, and other visual content to support communication campaigns. 
• Content Research: Conducting research to identify relevant multimedia resources and trends.
• Monitor online conversations and audience engagement on social media.
•  Participate in brainstorming sessions and provide creative inputs. 
•  Monitor social media trends and identify opportunities to promote UNFPA's work. 
• Stay up-to-date on current issues related to SRHR and youth development in the Pacific. 
•  Perform other duties as assigned by the Communications Supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience: 

Education:  

All candidates must meet the following educational and other eligibility requirements:

• Be enrolled in a master’s degree programme in communication, journalism, international relations, development studies or related field. 
• Have recently graduated with a university degree as defined above and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation. 
• Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee programme and undertake the internship as part of this programme.

Knowledge and Experience: 

• Strong visual storytelling skills. 
• Strong writing and editing skills. 
• Strong research and analytical skills. 
• Experience with video editing software and graphic design software. 
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•  Proficiency in social media platforms. 

Languages: 

● Fluency in English is required.

Compensation and Benefits:

Interns do not receive a salary from UNFPA. However, UNFPA provides a monthly stipend to interns. In addition, applicants must have medical insurance for the duration of the internship. UNFPA does not provide medical insurance for interns.
