Mission and objectives
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls, the empowerment of women, and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action, and peace and security. The UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) provides technical support, coordination, and policy guidance to country offices across the region to advance gender equality and women’s rights, including the right of women and girls to live free from all forms of violence.
Context
Ending violence against women and girls (EVAWG) is a regional and global priority for UN Women. In Asia and the Pacific, high levels of violence persist, driven by gender inequality, harmful social norms, and structural discrimination. UN Women’s EVAW work in the region combines prevention and response approaches, evidence-based programming, advocacy, and multi-stakeholder coordination to advance survivor-centred, gender-transformative solutions. Within this context, the UN Associate Volunteer will support communications and advocacy efforts of the EVAW team at the regional level. The assignment will contribute to the visibility and outreach of key regional initiatives, including the UNiTE Campaign to End Violence against Women, the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) Forum 2026, the UN Joint Programme on Gender-based Violence Prevention in Southeast Asia (funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade), and the Protection of the Rights of Women and Children in Labour Migration (PROTECT) Project (funded by the European Union). The assignment is designed as a learning-focused opportunity for an undergraduate student, providing exposure to UN communications, advocacy, and coordination processes in a regional setting.
