Save the Children’s Saint Patrick’s College Water Improvement Project aims to provide safe water for students and staff in Ambae. The project will work through a dual approach, supporting the school with capacity building and ownership alongside the water system rehabilitation to ensure sustainability and create lasting change for children.

Where you come in:

In this eight month contract position based in Ambae, Vanuatu, you will use your WASH Plumbing and construction technical expertise, project management experience and contextual knowledge to lead the rehabilitation of Saint Patrick’s College Water system. Working collaboratively with the School leadership, WASH Technical Advisors, and Provincial Government partners, the WASH Technician will oversee drilling and solar contractors, and then lead school staff and volunteers to complete the water system in line with Save the Children’s and donor policies and practices.

You will make an impact by:

• Mobilizing school leaders and handymen to finalize water system design, procurement and engage in building the water system, providing construction supervision to ensure water system upgrade is built to the agreed plan
• Provide logistical and operational support to coordinate and facilitate external suppliers to provide services for the water upgrade works including:

o Drilling of new borehole

o Hybrid pump installation

• Through training you will lead, motivate and support school teams to complete water upgrade works to standard including:

o replace the deteriorated header storage with new storage tanks,

o connect existing buried pipes

o checking for leakages

o Identify, assess and fix any major leakages found.

· Work with the School leadership to review and revise the WASH Improvement Plan, including asset mapping, priority actions, routine maintenance schedules, responsible persons, and emergency water-management arrangements.

Does this sound like you?

You are a qualified level 2 plumber with experience in construction and supervision, you enjoy working in teams to help children. You are passionate about continuous learning and capacity building, adhere to high standards of accountability, and thrive in a dynamic, collaborative team environment.

This role requires:

• Strong technical skills in plumbing and construction quality standards, including water pumps
• Proven project management skills, with experience in leading construction and plumbing projects
• Experience working in Ambae context
• Ability to influence and lead teams with different priorities
• Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and respond to external requests while being a strong team leader and player.
• Good verbal communication skills in technical subjects
