RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct care is generally provided by midwives, male or female, whom Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) recruits locally. As an internationally recruited midwife, you will primarily be responsible for supervising and, where necessary, training birth attendants. In locations where the healthcare system is failing, you may be required to directly examine and treat women. You will be responsible for prenatal consultations and family planning counseling. You will also be required to collect and analyze data, as well as write reports.
As a midwife for MSF, you will participate in coordinating maternal and child health services in rural clinics, reproductive healthcare in mobile clinics, or the treatment of hospitalized patients. Your role will be to implement and coordinate maternal health programs, supervise and train staff, and support the development of policies.
Full and current registration
Minimum two years of post-qualification work experience
Experience in medical and surgical termination of pregnancy, management of sexually transmitted infections, management of complicated deliveries in hospital settings, family planning
At least six months of clinical experience within the last two years
Experience in managing staff in a multicultural team (supervision and training)
Fluency in English and French (Intermediate+, minimum level B2 in both). Refer to this evaluation grid . Other languages such as Spanish, Arabic, and Portuguese are valued, but not required.
Relevant travel or work experience in contexts similar to where MSF works (armed conflicts, disasters, public health emergencies or situations of healthcare exclusion)
Available to work six to 12 months
Relevant experience in HIV, prevention of mother-to-child transmission, neonatal resuscitation, care for survivors of sexual assault, repair of third- and fourth-degree lacerations
Course in tropical medicine
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (especially Excel)
